The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Nigeria Michal Cygan, has expressed the Embassy’s willingness to partner with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter to boost women’s empowerment.

Cygan made the commitment on Thursday in Abuja, when members of the chapter, led by its chairperson Mrs Bassey Ita-Ikpang, paid him a courtesy visit.

He said that the embassy was committed to partnering with the NAWOJ FCT council in strengthening the association’s initiatives through training, and exchange programmes

He also assured of the embassy’s willingness to support women, particularly in areas of political leadership, providing visibility as well as advocacy.

He expressed optimism that the collaboration between NAWOJ and the embassy would empower women with knowledge and open up more opportunities for them.

Earlier, Ita-Ikpang said that the association’s collaboration with the embassy in Abuja would enhance women’s empowerment initiatives

She disclosed that the NAWOJ FCT council planned on commemorating the International Women’s Day with some activities before the end of the month, and sued for the embassy’s partnership to make it a reality.

According to her, to commemorate the day, we have scheduled a market place advocacy for 26 and a capacity building workshop for female journalists for 27.

She added that the embassy’s support and partnership would strengthen the impact of these initiatives.

The NAWOJ chairperson also said that as a professional body of female journalists with more than 350 members in the FCT, it was imperative to champion advocacy for women, children, and vulnerable groups, while promoting responsible journalism and capacity building for members.

“NAWOJ strongly believes that collaboration remains key in advancing gender equality, media professionalism, and sustainable development.

“This visit will provide an avenue to strengthen engagement and build meaningful cooperation.

“Poland is a nation widely respected for its rich history, resilience, and remarkable contributions to global development, especially of education, innovation, democratic values, and social progress.

“We commend the Polish government and its diplomatic mission in Nigeria for their continued efforts in strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.

“Your contributions towards developmental cooperation and cultural exchange are truly appreciated,” she said.

She expressed optimism that the partnership would promote women empowerment and development as well as amplify women’s voices.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
