Senior staff members of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) have commended the Registrar, Dr Ronke Soyombo, for restoring Federal Government’s funding for the council.
Mr Augustus Ihionu, Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Allied Institutions (SSAUTHRIAL), TRCN chapter, gave the commendation during the registrar’s golden jubilee celebration in Abuja on Monday.
Ihionu extolled Soyombo’s dedication to the welfare of workers, saying that her relentless efforts in bringing the council back to government’s funding was not only unprecedented but a display of exemplary leadership.
“It is with great pride and deep appreciation that I stand before you, on behalf of TRCN Staff Union, to eulogise our registrar and chief executive officer, Dr Ronke Soyombo, for her efforts in bringing the council back to federal government’s funding,” he said.
Ihionu said that at a time when the council faced significant uncertainty, particularly during the challenging period of defunding, many might have doubted the possible turnaround of the situation.
The union leader, who reiterated the leadership excellence of the registrar, said under her leadership and with the support of TRCN’s governing board chairman, doubts were transformed into renewed hope and strategic action.
“Dr Soyombo has demonstrated not only administrative competence but also courage, determination and an unwavering commitment to the mission of the council,” he remarked.
According to him, the bringing back of the council to government’s funding is Soyombo’s most remarkable achievement at the council.
This, he said, did not come by chance but a product of tireless advocacy, strategic engagement and deep belief in the value of the institution and its role in national development.
Ihionu also commended Soyombo for reviving the morale of the workers, restoring confidence in the system and repositioning the council for greater efficiency and relevance.
“Your leadership style, marked by inclusiveness, transparency and genuine concern for staff welfare, has rekindled a sense of belonging and purpose within our workforce.
“Dr Soyombo’s legacy within this council is already firmly established.
“She has shown us that true leadership is not just about holding an office but about making a difference, especially in the face of adversity,” he remarked.
Ihionu, who expressed the union’s commitment to building on the strong foundation laid by the registrar, also commended the Governing Board Chairman, Dr Mustapha Salihu, for his quality leadership and vision.
Earlier, the registrar described TRCN staff members as “very hardworking” people, saying that they deserved better wages.
Soyombo recalled what the workers had passed through in the last two years owing to non-payment of their salaries and other emoluments.
‘For two years, our staff were paid less than minimum wage while they were also deprived of promotion arrears,” she said.
The registrar stated that the restoration of government’s funding had boosted the morale of the staff member, thus further enhancing quality service delivery.(NAN)
