BON to host 2nd Nigeria Broadcasting Awards April 8 in Abuja

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) says it has concluded plan to host the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) aimed at celebrating excellence and promote quality media practice in the broadcast industry on April 8, in Abuja.

The organisation disclosed this in a statement jointly signed by the Executive Secretary of BON, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose, and the Chairman of the 2025 TNBA Committee, Mr Bayo Awosemo, issued on Friday in Abuja.

According to the organisation, the award ceremony is scheduled for 6p.m. at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.

The organisation revealed that this year’s edition received a total of 204 entries for broadcast performances recorded in 2024.

It also noted that the Awards Selection Committee, led by a former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr Danladi Bako, included representatives from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and other industry veterans.

According to the organisers, the ceremony will feature winners in 24 categories across radio and television, including “Radio and Television Stations of the Year, Best Reporter, Best Newscaster, and Best Producer of the Year.”

It added that beyond the competitive categories, BON would confer lifetime achievement awards on several icons who have made significant impacts on the industry.

These include former Director-General of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Mr Shyngle Wigwe, a former Managing-Director of NTA, Yemi Farounbi, and former Nigeria Ambassador to Philippines, Dr John Momoh, the Chairman, Channels Television, for their life time achievements and initiatives in the broadcast industry.

Other are former DG of Voice of Nigeria (VON) Malam Abubakar Jijiwa, the first female Chairman of BON, Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim, and veteran broadcaster, Mrs Bimbo Oloyede.

The organisation also disclosed that the event would also feature posthumous awards for industry pioneers including founder of DAAR Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi; Mr Timawus Mathias; Mr Okokon Ndem; Chief Mrs Anike Agbaje-Williams; and Mr Patrick Ityohegh.

“The 2nd edition will equally recognise the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River.

“Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State, and a former Executive Secretary of BON, Mr Obadiah Tohomdet, for their support for the media industry,” it added.

The organisation also disclosed that there would also be corporate recognition of DAAR Communications Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, Desmins Broadcasting (DITV), and Voice of Nigeria for advancing the course broadcasting in the country.

The TNBA was endorsed by the 74th General Assembly of BON held in Kano in the year 2021.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
