The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Uduma, says Easter is widely associated with renewal and hope which are powerful symbol of transformation and resilience.

Uduma said this on Sunday in his Easter message to the staff, students and the wider university community.

He said the celebration symbolises resurrection, renewal and the triumph of life over adversity, noting that its message transcends religious boundaries.

Quoting Luke 24:6, “He is not here, but is risen,” the vice-chancellor said the scripture conveys a universal truth that endings are not always final, and that new beginnings can emerge from unexpected circumstances.

“Easter reminds us that renewal is not a distant hope but a present and living possibility.

“What appears to be an end may, in fact, be a transformation in progress,” he said.

Uduma noted that the season invites reflection on the nature of challenges and the human capacity to overcome them, stressing that within every individual lies the strength to adapt, rise and transcend limitations.

He added that across cultures, the idea that hardship is followed by ease, reinforces the enduring relevance of Easter as a symbol of hope and continuity.

The vice-chancellor said the message of Easter holds special significance for the university, describing NOUN as an institution committed to expanding access to education and empowering individuals regardless of their circumstances.

“Every day, the university extends learning opportunities to those constrained by work, distance or life challenges, affirming that education remains a vital tool for personal and societal transformation,” he said.

Uduma encouraged students to remain steadfast in their academic pursuits, acknowledging that progress may sometimes appear slow but remains meaningful.

“Let this season renew your confidence, strengthen your discipline and deepen your commitment to your goals.

“Every step forward, no matter how small, is significant,” Uduma added.

He also commended staff for their dedication, describing their contributions as instrumental to shaping lives and building an inclusive and enlightened society.

Uduma urged members of the university community to let go of fear and doubt, and to embrace purpose, courage and clarity.

He expressed hope that the Easter celebration would bring renewal, strength and direction to all.

“No situation is beyond transformation and no life is beyond growth,” he said.

Uduma wished all the members of the university community a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
