The United Nations has called on all parties to the Middle East conflict—including the Un.S., Iran, and Israel—to fully comply with the newly agreed two-week ceasefire.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the truce but stressed adherence to international law to pave the way for lasting peace.
“UN Secretary General António Guterres calls on all the parties to the current conflict in the Middle East to comply with their obligations under international law and to abide by the terms of the ceasefire in order to pave the way toward a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region,” his spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, said.
While welcoming the two-week truce, Guterres “underscores that an end to hostilities is urgently needed to protect civilian lives and alleviate human suffering,” Dujarric added.
Israel is also directly involved in the conflict alongside the U.S. and Iran.
Iran and the U.S. agreed to the ceasefire shortly before the expiry of an ultimatum set by U.S. President Donald Trump for 0000 GMT on Wednesday.
Trump said on Truth Social that Iran’s 10-point plan provided a “workable basis” for negotiations. (dpa/NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
