A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 27-year-old farm manager, Israel Tony, to eight months in prison for stealing 30 crates of eggs.

Tony, a resident of Barnawa Kaduna, was charged with stealing.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Tony to eight months imprisonment without an option of fine.

Emmanuel also ordered him to pay N243, 000 to the complainant as compensation.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the convict committed the offence sometime between February and April at Maraba Rido in Kaduna.

Leo said Williams Dogo, of Sabon Tasha Kaduna, reported the matter at Sabon Tasha Police Station on April 22.

He said that the convict who was hired as a manager at the complainant’s farm, stole 30 crates of eggs.

He said the convict was arrested when the complainant noticed some irregularities in the account book.

Leo further said the convict confessed to the crime when arrested, adding that he sold the stolen eggs to one Bello Aminu at large.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.(NAN)
