The FCT Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has retrained 65 per cent of its personnel on weapon handling between 2023 and 2025.

The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

Odumosu said that the command, however, planned to retrain an additional 20 per cent of its officers and men, bringing the total to 85 per cent before the end of 2026.

He said that the personnel, who were retrained on arms usage by the command’s Arms Squad unit in collaboration with the Nigeria Army, were drawn from FCT NSCDC 25 Divisions and Area Commands.

Odumosu added that aside from those who had undergone arms training, no fewer than 2,500 officers and men had undergone refresher courses in different areas based on the command manpower capacity.

“We have been able to train men from different departments and units from the command headquarters, divisions and area commands on operational skills, intelligence gathering, surveillance, administration, strategy, logistics and tactical maneuvering.

“Our newly built and yet to be inaugurated training ground, has classrooms for educational purposes and a lot of tactical maneuvering obstacles.

“This will further enhance physical fitness, readiness, operational maneuvering and ability to stay on top of our game; with enough energy to confront and combat criminals,” he said.

The commandant harped on the need for the corps to operate according to international best practices by embracing modern innovations in combating crimes.

“We took delivery of drones from the corps’ national headquarters to enhance our patrol of critical national assets within the FCT, which warrants usage training for operators so training is a continuous process,” Odumosu said.

He disclosed that the command remained open to donations by partners or stakeholders willing to encourage and support the activities of the command in better combating crimes in the FCT.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
