Oba Saheed Elegushi Foundation on Tuesday donated solar electricity systems and furniture to Itedo Primary School in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, to improve the learning environment for pupils.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the donation is  part of activities marking the 50th birthday of the founder of the foundation, Oba Saheed Elegushi.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Oba Elegushi, represented by the Baale of Itedo Community, Chief John Ogunyemi, said access to stable electricity was essential to creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

“Access to stable electricity is vital for fostering a conducive learning environment and we are delighted to contribute to the future of our children and to support the growth of sustainable energy within our community.

“The solar power installation will provide reliable and clean energy for the school, ensuring that teaching and learning activities are no longer disrupted by inconsistent electricity supply,” he said.

Head of Communications of the foundation, Temitope Oyefeso, said the solar systems including inverter batteries were designed to efficiently meet the school’s energy needs.

According to Oyefeso, the intervention followed a visit that uncovered several infrastructural challenges at the school.

He said the foundation also donated furniture, replaced damaged windows and installed fans and light bulbs in classrooms and offices to improve the overall learning environment.

He added that the project aims to enhance educational activities and promote eco-friendly energy solutions within communities.

Oyefeso  reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to promoting education, sustainability and community development through impactful interventions across Lagos and beyond.

The Executive Secretary of  Eti-Osa Local Government Education Authority, Akilolu Adetola, represented by the Social Mobilisation Officer, Mr Olalekan Agbaje , commended the foundation for the intervention.

He described the gesture as timely and necessary, noting that it would improve pupils’ learning conditions and boost teachers’ productivity.

Also speaking, Headteacher of the school, Margaret Ukachi, expressed appreciation to the foundation for the donation.

“The generous donation will significantly improve our ability to deliver quality education to our pupils. It is a remarkable step toward a brighter, more sustainable future for the leaders of tomorrow,” she said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
