Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman has withdrawn from the Kwara governorship race ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election on Wednesday in the state.

Sulaiman, the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, said his decision to withdraw followed extensive consultations and recent political developments in Kwara.

Sulaiman added that leadership must always prioritise wisdom, responsibility, and commitment for the greater good.

“I have decided to withdraw from the gubernatorial race ahead of the forthcoming party primaries after extensive consultations and recent developments,” he said.

Sulaiman said his governorship ambition was inspired by his desire to contribute meaningfully to Kwara’s unity, progress, development and prosperity for all citizens.

“It was my belief in the promise and potential of Kwara that inspired my decision to seek the governorship position,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to residents across Kwara North, Kwara South and Kwara Central for their prayers, encouragement, goodwill and overwhelming support throughout his political consultations.

“I remain deeply humbled by the encouragement, prayers, goodwill, and overwhelming support shown to by residents across the three senatorial districts,” he added.

Sulaiman reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling APC and pledged continued support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I reaffirm my loyalty and commitment to our great party, the APC, and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

He pledged his continued support for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, stressing his commitment to strengthening peace, unity, and political stability within Kwara and Nigeria in general.

“As a loyal party member and stakeholder, I remain committed to the success of the APC in the upcoming elections at all levels,” Sulaiman stated.

He appreciated his supporters, friends, and well-wishers for standing by him, saying that their support and goodwill throughout the political process would never be taken for granted.

“This may mark the end of a political process, but not the end of our shared commitment to building a better Kwara State,” he said(NAN)
