The Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, on Saturday reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting Nigeria and ensuring a safer environment for all citizens.
Musa gave the assurance at the Southern Kaduna Festival (SKFEST) 2026 in Kafanchan, where he was honoured with the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander Award.
He said security remained the foundation for national development, adding that the Armed Forces and other security agencies were working tirelessly to safeguard the country despite prevailing challenges.
“Security remains the foundation upon which national development is built. Together with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, we remain committed to protecting our nation,” he said.
The minister stressed that lasting peace and development could only be achieved through unity, collective effort, and cooperation among citizens and security agencies.
He urged communities to continue supporting security operations, noting that intelligence sharing and vigilance were critical in addressing insecurity.
Musa also called on Nigerians to remain patient with ongoing reforms, saying they would yield positive results despite initial challenges.
He further dedicated his award to the people of Southern Kaduna, describing it as a recognition of collective contributions to peace and development.
The minister, however, expressed concern over continued cases of abductions, assuring that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of victims.
He charged youths to remain focused, embrace education and entrepreneurship, and reject violence and criminality.
“Your potential is limitless, but it must be channelled positively,” he said.
Musa commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders for their role in promoting peace and unity in the region.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the award was in recognition of Musa’s contributions to national security, peacebuilding and his representation of Southern Kaduna on the global stage.
The festival featured colourful cultural displays, performances, exhibitions and tourism showcases, attracting dignitaries, traditional rulers, and visitors from across the country. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
