Afrobeats star, Asake, delivered a special performance of his chart-topping album, M$NEY, at the historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, in partnership with Spotify.
Spotify, in a statement on Monday, said that the invite-only event, held on Sunday night.
Spotify said the event brought the singer’s friends, family members and some of his top listeners on the streaming platform.
The live performance marked the first time Asake had performed songs from the album since its release in May.
Backed by a live orchestra, the two-time Grammy award nominee performed tracks from the project and also treated guests to four unreleased songs.
Spotify said the entire concert was filmed and would be released as a full concert film on the platform in the coming days.
‘MONEY’, a project centered on themes of gratitude, prosperity, spirituality and ambition, has enjoyed significant commercial success since its release.
The album topped streaming charts in more than 19 countries, including Nigeria and reached number eight on music charts in the United States.
Following the album’s success, Asake was ranked the 15th biggest digital artiste globally by Kworb Data, placing him among some of the world’s leading music acts.
Born Ahmed Ololade, Asake has become one of Africa’s most successful contemporary artistes through his distinctive blend of fújì, Afropop and amapiano sounds, complemented by Yoruba-inspired storytelling.
His debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe, released in 2022, became the highest-charting Nigerian debut album at the time, while subsequent projects, ‘Work of Art’ and ‘Lungu Boy’, produced hit songs including “Lonely At The Top”, “Remember” and “Wave”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lungu Boy holds the record as the longest-running number one album in Nigerian chart history and remains among the 20 most-streamed Nigerian albums of all time.
Asake further expanded his global reach with his 2024 Lungu Boy World Tour, which recorded sold-out shows at major venues including Madison Square Garden, Barclays Centre and The O2 Arena.
The singer has also earned Grammy nominations for Best African Music Performance at the 66th and 67th Awards for “Amapiano” featuring Olamide and “MMS” featuring Wizkid.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
