A sales representative, Emmanuel Effiong of Kubwa, was on Thursday docked in a Magistrates’ Court in Duste, Abuja for allegedly stealing 105 planks of wood from his employer.
The police charged Effiong with criminal breach of trust, theft and cheating.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Juliana Atinko, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in February.
She said that Mr Ogbonna Chijioke, the shop owner reported the matter at the Kubwa Police station.
The police said the defendant was employed in Chijioke’s shop where he sells building materials as a sales representative.
She said that the defendant stole 105 planks of wood and other items all worth N850,000 and sold them to some unknown persons.
The prosecutor informed the court that during police investigation and interrogation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
The offence, she said, contravened provisions of Sections 312, 288 and 321 of the Penal Code Law.
Senior Magistrate, Ibrahim Alkali admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must have a reliable means of identification and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The senior magistrate adjourned the matter until Aug. 3 for hearing.(NAN)(www.nannews.com.ng)
