Former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has donated N27 million to victims of flooding and banditry in Alkaleri and Kirfi Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor made the donation on Sunday during a sympathy visit to Alkaleri, Kirfi, Bara, and Sabongarin Pali communities.
Abubakar, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the visit was to identify with the people, assess the level of damage, and provide immediate relief to affected families.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC flag-bearer donated N17 million in cash, 200 bags of rice, and 50 bags of sugar to Bara, Kirfi, and Alkaleri communities.
NAN recalls that the areas were ravaged by flooding that displaced hundreds of households, submerged farmlands, and damaged critical infrastructure.
The governorship candidate also donated N10 million to Sabongarin Pali community following recent bandit attacks that claimed many lives, led to the abduction of residents, and resulted in the rustling of livestock.
Abubakar handed over the cash and relief materials to traditional rulers and community representatives to ensure transparent distribution to the most vulnerable households affected by the disasters.
He described the situation as heartbreaking and reaffirmed his commitment to stand with the people “until normalcy is restored and their livelihoods are rebuilt.
“The APC stands with you in this moment of grief. The welfare of the people remains our top priority.”
Abubakar promised to address the challenges facing the communities if given the mandate in 2027.
He pledged to invest in flood control and drainage projects, strengthen community security, support victims with rehabilitation programmes, and enhance humanitarian assistance and emergency response services.
While urging the people to remain steadfast in faith and prayer, Abubakar also called on relevant agencies, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to support the victims. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
