After more than a year of shooting, the 8-episode humanistic exploration documentary series Qinling Home, jointly produced by the Film, Television and Documentary Center of China Media Group and Xi’an Broadcasting Station (Group), will be broadcast on CCTV-9 at 19:27 every night from July 13 to 20 and available on China Media Group Mobile at 12:00 noon.
The Qinling Mountains are a great mountain range stretching across the center of China’s territory. Protecting the Qinling Mountains is not merely about protecting a mountain range; it is about safeguarding our ecological security barrier, preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the Chinese nation, and protecting our shared spiritual home. This is the core idea the documentary series Qinling Home intends to convey.
This documentary series is titled Qinling Home, so we first need to understand the profound meaning of the word “home” — the Qinling Mountains are an ecological home that shelters and nourishes various living things, a cultural home that bears thousands of years of cultural heritage and holds countless stories from ancient times to the present, and more importantly, a spiritual home that enriches the character, soothes the heart, and nourishes the soul. Thus, the production team aims to create a documentary series that portrays the harmony between man and nature, the blending of mountains and rivers with everyday life, and the resonance between history and the present.
Unlike traditional documentaries on the Qinling Mountains, this series adopts a visitor’s perspective and uses the stories of ordinary people to guide you into this ecological, cultural, and spiritual home, aiming to present you with a comprehensive, multidimensional, and vivid portrayal of the majestic Qinling Mountains.
The eight 25-minute episodes center around the themes of “Evergreen Mountains, Water Nourishing North and South, Living Beings in Late Autumn, Gifts from the Earth, Poetic Landscapes, Mountains and Rivers as Home, Eternal Craftsmanship, and Seeking Roots of Civilization” respectively. Six cultural scholars, namely Wang Xuebin, Liu Yapeng, Yu Xiaofeng, Wang Yaojie, Hu Xiao, and Ma Xiaoshu, are the visitors. Through their immersive contact with the natural ecology of the Qinling Mountains, in-depth experience of local life in Xi’an, and on-site visits to historical and cultural sites, the natural wonders of the Qinling Mountains, the profound historical and cultural heritage, and the contemporary life scenes of Xi’an people are organically integrated. This allows the audience to follow the footsteps of the visitors and understand the symbiotic code between the Qinling Mountains and Xi’an that spans thousands of years through the vivid individual visiting experience.
To capture more beautiful and magnificent Qinling Mountains throughout the four seasons, the production team based themselves in the Central Shaanxi Plain at the northern foot of the Qinling and extended their lens and stories across the vast expanse of the Qinling from east to west and north to south.
The Qinling Mountains are home to countless valleys, ancient trails, and mountains. Six visitors, each with their own theme, went to various districts and counties, including Lantian, Lintong, Baqiao, Chang’an, Huyi, and Zhouzhi in Xi’an, along the northern foot of the Qinling. They documented the daily lives of local people, interpreting the visiting themes with touching stories. One by one, the vivid faces of the Shaanxi people reveal a deep love for life and also tell the ordinary yet warm stories of how they protect the Qinling Mountains.
In this 8-episode 200-minute documentary series, we hope that every viewer can understand, revere, and love the Qinling Mountains through these vivid characters and heartwarming stories.
