The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting shared values among government institutions and professional organisations to maximise resources in support of government reforms for national growth.
This is contained in a statement issued by Zira Nagga, BPP’s Head of Media and Public Relations, in Abuja on Monday.
According to Nagga, the Director-General of BPP, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, reaffirmed the commitment while receiving the President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS).
Adedokun said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between BPP and NIQS to ensure that statutory professional and procurement frameworks operate harmoniously within their respective legal mandates.
He described NIQS as a body founded on professionalism, transparency, accountability and integrity, noting its critical role in the successful execution of government projects.
He said that the bureau had entered a new phase focused on value creation and impactful service delivery.
“The BPP is anchored on the concept of value for money that translates to value for life.
“This ensures a positive impact on citizens across key sectors such as health, education, infrastructure and technology,” he said.
The BPP boss said the bureau remained committed to supporting government reforms through efficient procurement practices, and urged professional bodies to align with the initiatives introduced by President Bola Tinubu.
He said recent procurement reforms approved by Tinubu were designed to strengthen accountability, efficiency and service delivery across public institutions.
Adedokun described the bureau as a regulatory and compliance institution that also served as a catalyst for institutional growth and development.
He said the bureau was focusing on sector-based procurement, where thresholds will be designed for every sector as well as the classification and categorisation of contractors.
He urged NIQS to provide its database to enable the BPP update its records of practising quantity surveyors.
The director-general also stressed the importance of professionalism in the preparation of Bills of Quantities, particularly for construction projects.
He said all Bills of Quantities must be signed and sealed by the professionals who prepared them to ensure accountability for the accuracy and adequacy of the quantities and descriptions contained in the documents.
Adedokun said that ministries, departments and agencies should ensure that the bills were signed and sealed before commencing procurement processes.
The President of NIQS, Dr Aminu Bashir, commended Adedokun for his procurement reform initiatives and efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s procurement system.
Bashir, who described the BPP director-general as an Honorary Fellow of NIQS, pledged the institute’s full support for the bureau’s ongoing reform agenda.
He said the quantity surveying profession shared the bureau’s commitment to promoting value for money in public procurement.
According to him, the institute supports the BPP’s revised policy on contract sum variations and the mandatory use of final designs introduced on May 14.
Bashir also reaffirmed the institute’s readiness to partner with the bureau in cost management, cost planning, variation analysis, fluctuation assessment and final cost determination for public projects.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
