The Spokesperson for The IMOLE Campaign Council (TICC), Mr Pelumi Olagbenjesi, has urged the Federal Government and the International Community to ensure credible governorship election in Osun.
Olagbenjesi spoke at a news conference on “The Need for a Transparent, Free and Credible Osun Governorship Election’’, on Friday in Abuja.
He said that the election was a critical integrity test for the Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the people of Osun expect the federal government, civil society organisations and the international community to observe greater vigilance during the election.
“The coming election in Osun is important to Nigerians and the world at large.
“This election is a major test of the integrity of INEC to know if we are prepared enough to conduct a free and credible election,” he said.
He also urged the media to play a key role in advocating for a credible election.
“We appeal to journalists and media organisations to do their bit in making sure there is proper and accurate dissemination of news.
“Media should play their key role in advocating a free and credible election.
“The people of Osun must be allowed to vote for the candidate of their choice,” he said.
He urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu to intervene in the spate of political violence in the state.
Similarly, Oluremi Francis, a Legal Practitioner said that it is the government’s duty to serve the interest of the people.
“Government is a social contract and the forth coming election in Osun is a test to the credibility and integrity of the stakeholders in the election.
“The people are the employers of government, so they must be given the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice,” he said.
He also called on INEC to be impartial and independent in the electoral process. (NAN)(Www.nannews.ng)
