The Synergy Child Protection and Youth Development Initiative, an NGO, has urged governments at all levels to strengthen youth-focused programmes, particularly for vulnerable and marginalised youths.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Mr Pannan Henry, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
Henry said the organisation appreciated government efforts in youth empowerment, skills development, education, employment and entrepreneurship.
He called for improved access to quality education and skills training, decent employment, mental wellbeing services, digital inclusion and stronger protection systems for children and young people.
“We believe that young people should not only be viewed as beneficiaries of development programmes but as partners in shaping the policies and solutions that affect their lives,” he said.
Henry said creating inclusive spaces for youth participation in governance and policy development would strengthen trust and promote more responsive solutions.
He said young Nigerians had continued to demonstrate their potential in education, entrepreneurship, technology, leadership and community development.
“In spite of the hardships and challenges they face, young Nigerians continue to create opportunities, support their communities and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the nation,” he said.
Henry urged stakeholders to pay greater attention to issues affecting young Nigerians, particularly education, skills development, employment, mental wellbeing, digital inclusion and participation in decision-making.
He said Synergy remained committed to supporting young people to realise their potential and become active contributors to a safer, more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.
“A displaced child is a misplaced future.
“We therefore encourage the Government, civil society, private sector and other stakeholders to ensure that every child and young Nigerian has the opportunity, support and enabling environment needed to thrive,” he said. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
