The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen Waidi Shaibu, has urged the Combat Service Support (CSS) Corps to develop adaptable and agile logistics systems to sustain the Nigerian Army (NA) operations.

Shaibu made this known at the 27th CCS training week, at NA Ordnance Corps Abalti Barracks Ojuelegba, on Tuesday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the CSS Training Week is an annual NA event aimed at enhancing professional competence, interoperability and operational effectiveness among CSS Corps personnel.

The CSS Corps comprises the NA Corps of Supply and Transport, the NA Medical Corps, the NA Ordnance Corps, the NA Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps.

Shaibu, represented by Maj.-Gen Adekunle Adeyinka, Chief of Logistics, NA, said the 27th CSS Training Week would provide an avenue to assess readiness, emerging sustainment challenges and lessons from operations.

He said the theme of the training, “Developing an Adaptable and Agile Combat Service Support Corps for Proactive and Sustainable Support to the Nigerian Army,” aligned with operational readiness.

The COAS said effective combat power depended on logistics and support, including ammunition, fuel, mobility, medical support, maintenance and infrastructure.

He urged participants to develop practical recommendations for supporting newly established divisions, strengthening logistics assets, maintenance facilities, medical services, transport resources and supply systems.

“Nigeria’s evolving security environment requires an agile and anticipatory Combat Service Support system capable of sustaining prolonged operations across multiple theatres”,he said.

He urged participants to share operational experiences, challenge established assumptions and offer innovative solutions that would improve doctrine, processes and procedures.

The COAS reaffirmed the army’s commitment to strengthening logistics and sustainment capability through infrastructure, logistics platforms, maintenance capacity, technology, manpower development and efficient resource management.

He commended CSS personnel for their loyalty, professionalism and contributions to kinetic, non-kinetic and humanitarian operations.

Shaibu appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his strategic direction and support, including approval for army expansion, and reaffirmed the loyalty of officers and soldiers to the constitution.

He charged the CSS Corps to remain innovative, responsive and mission-focused, declaring the 27th CSS Training Week 2026 open. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
