Dr Chioma Awuzie, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko (OKOPOLY), has inaugurated a committee to oversee the development of the institution’s Fashion and Arts Gallery.
Awuzie inaugurated the seven-member committee on Tuesday at her Office, and charged it to transform the gallery into a vibrant platform for showcasing the creativity, craftsmanship and innovative works of staff and students.
She stressed the need to give greater visibility to the artistic and creative achievements of the Polytechnic community, particularly students and staff of the School of Arts, Design and Printing Technology.
“The Federal Polytechnic Oko is home to numerous talented and innovative individuals whose creative works have the potential to attract recognition beyond the institution.
“The gallery should not merely serve as a repository for artworks, but should become a dynamic showcase of the ingenuity, skills and creative identity of the institution,” she said.
The rector charged the committee to ensure that creative works were properly curated, presented and promoted to visitors, prospective students and the general public.
According to her, exposing the works to a wider audience will create opportunities for greater recognition, collaboration and professional and artistic development.
Awuzie urged the committee to develop strategies to increase the visibility of the Polytechnic’s fashion, artistic and creative productions, while positioning the gallery as an attractive representation of the institution’s creative strength.
The committee is chaired by Mr Ifechukwu Uchenna, with Mr Peter Ubakaeze, Mr Obinna Egwu, Mrs Patricia Obokoh, Mr Chidi Nwachukwu, Mrs Anulika Igwe and Mr Elochukwu Akaolisa as members.
In his remarks, Uchenna appreciated the rector for the confidence reposed in members of the committee.
“We are committed to carrying out the mandate diligently and ensuring that the Fashion and Arts Gallery becomes a vibrant platform to promote the creative talents of the Polytechnic community,” he said.(NAN)
