The Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST) has trained 380 soldiers and officers in specialised logistics, driving, catering and safety skills to enhance operational efficiency.
The Commandant of NASST, Maj.-Gen. Samuel Adejimi, disclosed this on Friday in Benin at the graduation ceremony of the school’s Third Quarter Courses 2026.
Adejimi said the training was designed to improve the technical capabilities of personnel and enable them to perform their responsibilities effectively in the field.
He said eight courses commenced on July 3, but seven were completed during the quarter, while the eighth, a six-month course, would be completed in the fourth quarter.
According to him, the graduating courses included the Fire and Safety Officers’ Course, Driver Upgrading (B2) Course, Driver Basic (B3) Course and Supply/Storeman Upgrading (B2) Course.
Others were the Fire and Safety Upgrading (X2) Course, Supply and Transport Combat Cook (X1) Course and Catering Basic (B3) Course.
“They have undergone rigorous training in line with Army Headquarters Training Directives.
“The students are willing to support their respective units with the lessons learnt from their various training programmes,” he said.
Adejimi expressed confidence that the graduating personnel were equipped to support troops and effectively carry out their responsibilities in the field.
The commandant commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, and the Commander, Corps of Supply and Transport, Maj.-Gen. ND Shagaya, for their support and guidance.
The Special Guest of Honour, Maj.-Gen. A.A Fadayiro, said sustained training was essential for the Army to respond effectively to emerging security challenges.
“Training is the most important need in the circumstances that we have in the country involving security challenges, and the military must train to meet these contemporary challenges,” he said.
Fadayiro said NASST played an important role in developing manpower in driving, catering, safety operations and combat supply.
“When we train personnel, we perfect techniques and procedures to make the military better, fight better and get good results,” he said.
He said the training had equipped the graduates with skills needed to support the operational capabilities of their formations.
Fadayiro also stressed the importance of efficient movement of personnel and supplies and effective catering services to the Army’s operational objectives.
He commended the Chief of Army Staff for infrastructural renovations and facility upgrades at the school, which he said had provided a conducive learning environment.
The Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Inyang, said the training was aimed at producing competent personnel capable of responding effectively to security challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating students, Lt.-Col. Olayinka Olajuyi assured the Army that the graduates would be good ambassadors of the institution. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
