By Philip Yatai

Mrs Obiageli Okwubanego, the newly-appointed National General Secretary of the Iyaloja-General Movement for Renewed Hope Alliance (IGM), has pledged to spearhead extensive grassroots mobilisation to secure support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Okwubanego made the pledge in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, following her appointment as the movement scribe by the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Dr Mujidat Tinubu-Ojo.

She described the movement as a political support group founded to mobilise market women, traders and informal sector workers ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She urged Nigerians, particularly women and market leaders, to actively participate in the democratic process and engage constructively with issues shaping the country’s political future.

She said the movement would continue to provide an organised platform for civic participation and the articulation of grassroots interests while advancing support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.

She described the appointment as a significant demonstration of confidence in her leadership capacity, administrative experience, and commitment to public service.

Expressing appreciation to Tinubu-Ojo, the appointee assured that she would bring dedication, diligence and purposeful leadership to the discharge of her responsibilities.

She lauded the Iyaloja-General’s dedication to grassroots organisation and women empowerment, noting that her leadership continues to create platforms for women to participate meaningfully in national development.

The new national general secretary reaffirmed her determination to work closely with the National Director-General of IGM, Dr Nasiru Ladan, state coordinators and other key stakeholders.

She noted that collaborating with the National Working Committee and state structures would help build a cohesive platform capable of delivering on the movement’s mandates.

Okwubanego stated that her immediate priority would be to strengthen the national secretariat, improve administrative efficiency and establish effective communication channels across all structures.

According to her, the movement’s mobilisation drive requires deliberate engagement with market leaders, traders, women’s groups and community stakeholders to ensure maximum grassroots participation.

Reiterating her commitment to the assignment, Okwubanego called on all members, state coordinators, and stakeholders of the movement to unite and work collectively toward building a formidable national platform.

Okwubanego, a prominent businesswoman and real estate developer, currently serves as Senior Special Assistant on Tax and Investment Mobilisation to Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra.

In her state assignment, she facilitates engagements between investors and the state government, particularly in investment promotion, diaspora investment, and economic development.

She has also represented the Anambra Government at various international economic platforms, including the India-Nigeria Business Forum, advocating partnerships in healthcare and education.

Her appointment is expected to bolster the administrative and organisational capacity of IGM as it works towards expanding its national reach ahead of the 2027 general elections. (NAN)
