The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Enugu State Chapter on Saturday conducted two parallel congresses, with two separate state chairmen and executives emerging.
The parallel congresses, which were held at different venues, saw the emergence of Retired Maj.-Gen. Chris Eze as the Chairman, while Prof. Austine Akulue emerged as the chairman in the other faction.
The two congresses were held at different venues within Enugu metropolis and both chairmen hailed from the Enugu North Senatorial District, where the chairmanship is zoned to.
In his acceptance speech, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Eze said he would take the ADC in Enugu State to a higher level.
He said that leading ADC in Enugu State was a serious responsibility bestowed on him and his team but assured the party faithful that they would overcome.
The retired general promised to run the party with “absolute integrity, incorruptibility, and transparency.”
“I will not accept any inducement from any source whatsoever to do anything that will negatively impact the party.
“I will not spare any member of the party’s executive at any level in Enugu State who accepts such inducement,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state’s Chairperson of the party, Mrs Stella Chukwuma, has distanced herself and her executives from the congresses.
Speaking to NAN on the parallel congresses, Chukwuma maintained that the ADC congresses in Enugu State remained suspended and anything other than that was none of her business.
“That is the only thing I can say for now,” she said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
