The Akwa Ibom Government has unveiled an Olympic-size boxing ring as part of efforts to boost sporting activities in the state.
Speaking at the event on Friday in Uyo, the Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, said that the state was committed to reviving combat sports.
Bassey said that the Gov. Umo Eno-led government was committed to creating the avenue for young talents to compete nationally and internationally.
The commissioner said that the facility would promote the development of boxing and produce professional boxers in the state.
He further said the equipment was expected to serve as a training hub for amateur and aspiring boxers across the state.
“Our goal is to produce boxers who would fly Akwa Ibom and Nigerian flags at global tournaments.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom Council, Nsibiet John, commended the state government for its efforts in sports development.
John expressed optimism that the facility would end the era when boxers in the state trained without standard equipment.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
