Bayelsa dominated the men’s freestyle event at the ongoing 4th Gov. Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa on Monday.
The host team secured a total of four medals, consisting of three gold medals at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the men’s 70kg category, Erofagha Dideikenei clinched Bayelsa’s first gold medal after defeating Richard Ebigha of Rivers in the final.
Andrew Ebikeme of Dynamite Club and Ebikedunene Tee of Delta both settled for bronze.
In the 82kg category, Solomon Ulabo earned Bayelsa its second gold medal with a victory over Agbonifo Ehichiel of Edo in the final.
James Perekeme of the Nigeria Customs Service and Progress Peter of Dynamite Club took bronze medals.
Zikeanh Amen added to Bayelsa’s tally by winning gold in the 125kg category after defeating Atere Kehinde of Ogun.
Richard Muzaan of Ondo and Simon Christopher of Plateau secured bronze medals.
Tochukwu Okeke of the Nigerian Army retained his national title in the 87kg Greco-Roman category.
Mathias Okuma of Edo claimed silver after recording one win and one loss, while Samuel Nathaniel of Bayelsa State took bronze.
