The Bolt mobility platform has partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to sensitise driver-partners and couriers in Abuja, promoting adherence to traffic regulations and safe driving practices across the city.

The sensitisation exercise aimed to strengthen awareness on road safety compliance within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reinforcing responsible driving culture and encouraging participants to prioritise safety in every journey across Nigeria’s busy roads.

Speaking on Friday, Ms Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Head of Regulatory and Policy, Africa at Bolt, emphasised that safety remained central to mobility platform operations, integrating technology with practical measures to protect drivers, riders, and communities.

Aghadiuno highlighted that partnerships with regulators like the FRSC were crucial, providing driver-partners and couriers with essential knowledge and skills required to navigate Nigerian roads safely and responsibly every day.

“Safety is fundamental to how mobility platforms operate, extending beyond technology alone.

“Collaborating with FRSC equips our driver-partners and couriers with practical knowledge, ensuring confidence and promoting safer cities for all residents,” she said.

“Bolt’s Safety Perception Survey, released in 2025, revealed that two-thirds of respondents believe ride-hailing services help reduce drunk driving by offering reliable transportation alternatives for commuters, improving overall road safety in urban areas.

“The collaboration reinforces the importance of driver education and responsible driving practices across Nigeria’s transport ecosystem, demonstrating that strengthened awareness among professional drivers benefits riders and other road users alike.”

Aghadiuno reiterated Bolt’s commitment to working with authorities, industry stakeholders, and driver communities to promote safety awareness and support initiatives designed to improve road safety standards nationwide.

FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, commended the initiative, emphasising that partnerships between regulators and mobility platforms were critical to improving road safety outcomes across the Federal Capital Territory.

Theman encouraged drivers to prioritise rest, responsible conduct, and safe driving habits, highlighting that continuous education and adherence to traffic regulations were essential to preventing accidents and protecting lives on Nigerian roads.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility. We commend Bolt for this initiative and encourage all road users to maintain safe driving practices to prevent crashes and enhance commuter confidence daily,” he said.

Theman stressed that collaboration between private mobility platforms and regulatory bodies could significantly reduce road crashes, ensuring safer roads through education, awareness campaigns, and promotion of responsible driving behaviours in the capital.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that more than 100 Bolt driver-partners and couriers participated in practical road safety sessions led by FRSC officials, receiving interactive guidance on safe driving practices.

Participants were trained on key traffic regulations, including speed limits, seatbelt compliance, overtaking rules, and other general safety practices to prevent accidents and promote responsible driving culture across Nigeria.

The sensitisation programme featured presentations, interactive sessions, and open engagements with drivers, addressing fatigue management, defensive driving techniques, and the dangers of alcohol-impaired driving, reinforcing the need for constant vigilance on the roads. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
