By David Adeoye
The installation processes of the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso, on Tuesday, climaxed with the presentation of staff of office/instrument of office to , Oba Ghandi Olaoye by Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Makinde, in his remarks, urged the 62-year-old traditional ruler to take steps that would ensure unity in Ogbomoso land.

He also enjoined that the new Soun to embark on activities that would fast-track development in the ancient town.

The governor, who noted that there wasn’t a central traditional council in the state, said that the new royal father should work toward ensuring that there was unity among traditional rulers in the state.

He particularly called Oba Olaoye to work assiduously to ensure that the State Council of Traditional Rulers became functional again.

Makinde said that his administration would soon reconstruct the House of Chiefs within the secretariat complex to allow the traditional rulers to hold their meetings in a conducive atmosphere.

He called other contestants to the Soun throne to put the experience behind them and support the new traditional ruler.

“I’m looking forward to seeing those who went to court to challenge the new oba withdrawing their cases as a show of love for Ogbomosoland,” he said.

In his address, Oba Olaoye appealed to all the stakeholders in the Ogbomoso land project to join hands with him to ensure that the ancient town attained its great potentials.

“It is a well known fact that the sons and daughters of Ogbomoso land are among the most industrious entrepreneurs in this country.

“No community can embark on any significant development that we want for Ogbomoso land without government’s inputs.

“We are thankful for the roles that the governments at all levels – federal, state and local governments – are playing in the development of Ogbomoso land,” he said.

He particularly appreciated the Makinde-led administration for the attention given to Ogbomoso since its inception.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the historic ceremony, which kick-started Oba Olaoye’s reign, was held at Ogbomoso Stadium.

NAN also reports that a galaxy of dignitaries from all walks of life, including former Vice-President Yemi Osibajo, Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Kwara Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, witnessed the event.

Adeboye anoints Olaoye new Soun Ogbomoso, says he’s destined king

Adeboye anoints Olaoye new Soun Ogbomoso, says he’s destined king

Remi Koleoso

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Sunday anointed the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye.

Adeboye, while anointing the king at the interdenominational thanksgiving services for him at Beulah Baptist Conference, Ogbomoso, said Olaoye was destined to be a king.

Olaoye was a senior pastor in RCCG before being selected and approved for the Soun’s stool. He will receive his staff of office as the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso on Dec. 19.

He further explained why he could not stop Adeboye from contesting the Soun Ogbomoso stool, stressing that he was divinely ordained

The cleric, who was replying critics, who queried him for not stopping Olaoye from vying for the position of his forebears in Ogbomoso, said he could not stand against the will of God.

“When he came to inform me about the development, I told him to go and pray.

“Shortly after, he came back and said he has not heard anything and I told him to go back and pray again.

“After a while, he came back and said that God has spoken to him and have heard him loud and clear that he should go ahead.

“It was then that I told him to go because it has been destined, I knew that long ago, but I want God to speak to him directly.

“To my critics, if I said No and God said Yes, whose word is the final, God of course.

“So, I cannot stop him because Pastor Olaoye was destined to be a king even before he was born and thank God it is coming into fruition,” he said.

Adeboye, in his sermon, reading  from Act of Apostles Chapter 15 verse18, counseled the traditional ruler to embrace the people and promote peace and unity among his subjects.

After the sermon, Pastor Adeboye anointed the king and his wife and prayed for his peaceful and prosperous reign as Soun.

Oba Olaoye, while addressing the congregation said, “Pastor Adeboye is my spiritual role model. He has been a father to me; it’s an unforgivable sin if anyone reports me to Pastor Adeboye.

“I am happy that the person who laid a hand on me to become a pastor is the same, who anointed me when I became a king.

“To my people in Ogbomoso, let us work together, let us develop this land and let’s make this land a place, where our sons and daughters will be proud of,  I believe it’s a new dawn for Ogbomoso.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that group of clergymen offered special prayers for the Royal father, Ogbomoso, Oyo State and Nigeria in general.

Productivity: Entrepreneur urges workers to shun ‘African time’ syndrome

Productivity: Entrepreneur urges workers to shun ‘African time’ syndrome

By Joshua Olomu

Mr Emmanuel Njoku, Entrepreneur and Managing Director/CEO of Prezzo Shed Investments Ltd, has urged workers across all sectors to shun ‘African time’ syndrome to ensure productivity in their organisations.

Njoku gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of End-of–Year Party and Awards ceremony organised for company’s workers in Abuja on Sunday.

According to him, a situation where workers justify lateness to work and other events hinders organisation’s growth and national development.

He said that lack of discipline in keeping time was a major cause of delay in accomplishing tasks within stipulated period.

This, he added, impaired progress, growth and development.

“Although, the African time is now normal in our system because when we go to meetings abroad, people talk about African time that we do not keep time.

“ I mean it should not be seen as an African thing, we should change the narrative.

“There should be an act of discipline, people should be punctual, because it is an act of discipline,” Njoku said.

According to him, Prezzo Shed is a leading provider of health equipment for humanitarian purposes, with a workforce that is committed to timely and effective service delivery over the years.

He said the End-of–Year party/Service Awards was to celebrate outstanding members of staff and inspire them for renewed commitment to duty in the coming year.

According to him, the categories of awards for staff include Punctuality Award, Long Service Award, Best Dressed Male and Female Staff of the Year and Accident-Free Award for the drivers.

“Today is the end of the year party for the workers and it is traditional, as they say all work without play makes Jack a dull boy.

“So, having worked from January to December, we have a way of coming together by reuniting the company with the families of the staff, our clients and our friends.

“In line with global best practices, we have a way of rewarding workers. So, for us, it is always saying kudos to people who are doing well because they say one good deserves another.

“Among others, the long service award is a way of motivating some members of staff so that they will do better in the coming years,” he said.

Also speaking, Ms Paschaline Akaleke, Administrative/Human Resources Manager of the company, said the recognition was a motivation for workers to resume duty on time, dress well to work, be of good behaviour.

“The award is to appreciate staff who have stayed with the company for five years, 10 years and 15 years to tell them that the company appreciates their input and dedication to duty.

“This will boost their moral, because in the next year everybody will be thinking there is something to look forward to at the end of the year,” she said.

Also, company’s General Manager, Dr Albert Anusi, who received the Long Service Awards, expressed appreciation to management on behalf of other recipients.

He said that the honour should be seen as a call for renewed dedication to duty.

NAN reports that highpoint of the event was the presentation of monetary rewards and plaques to all awardees.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Coronation: Soun inaugurates operation zero potholes on Ogbomoso township roads

By Remi Koleoso

The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, has inaugurated operation zero potholes on Ogbomoso township roads as part of activities for his coronation scheduled for Dec. 19.

Spokesman for the paramount ruler,  Rev. Peter Olaleye, said this in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, in Ogbomoso.

Olaleye said that the ongoing repair of road network within the city was at the instance of the paramount ruler.

He said that Oba Olaoye had approached relevant authorities to get the road fixed to make driving through the metropolis less burdensome, especially during the coronation activities.

“Oba Olaoye is committed to improving the outlook of Ogbomoso in all facets. He is willing to meet with relevant stakeholders to effect the desired changes.

“It is part of the reasons he decided to launch operation zero tolerance against potholes.

“The Royal father is not happy with the condition of Ogbomoso roads and that is why he decided to partner with Reynolds Construction Company (RCC)  to rehabilitate some major roads in the city,” he said.

According to him, this is even more germane because of the coronation ceremony and solicited the support and cooperation of residents for the Royal father.

The Chairman of the coronation Central Planning Committee, Prof. Adesola Adepoju, had on Tuesday, last week at a news conference rolled out the programme of events at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club in Ogbomoso.

Adepoju disclosed that Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State would present the staff of office to Oba Olaoye on Tuesday, at the Ogbomoso Township stadium to climax the one-week activities.

He said the town would play host to dignitaries from all walks of life, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, representatives of governments at all levels, serving and former governors, captains of industry and members of the diplomatic corps.

Adepoju said that his committee was already working with the different arms of security agencies to provide adequate security for lives and properties during the events as well as travel routes.

The chairman told NAN correspondent that visited Ogbomoso, to observe the level of preparedness, that the traditional ruler had given directives that bad portions on township roads be fixed immediately.

“The rehabilitation of the bad portions on major roads that passed through Caretaker area to Seminary and Bowen Hospital area had commenced.

“There were deep gullies in these areas which make driving through difficult, especially with the hundreds of articulated vehicles plying the roads, often resulting in slow movement of traffic.

“Reynolds Construction Company has been contracted to fix the bad portions,” he said.

NAN reports that the contractor was seen on site when visited patching up some of the damaged portions with stone base.

RCC is the contracting firm currently handling the construction of the Ogbomoso – Oyo section of the new Ibadan – Ilorin dual carriage way. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Nollywood drama, ‘Love and Life’, premieres in Lagos

Nollywood drama, ‘Love and Life’, premieres in Lagos

By Joan Odafe
A new movie titled, “Love and Life”,  produced by First Features Project premiered on Wednesday in Lagos.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the private screening of the movie, its Executive Producer, Dotun Olakunri, said, “Love and Life is not just a film; it’s a narrative tapestry woven with passion and dedication.”

NAN reports that ‘Love and Life’, directed by Reuben Reng, is a story of the healing powers of supportive friendships in love relationships and daily life.

The movie explores the relationship among three middle-aged women and how they are able to overcome their love and business challenges through the sisterly support of one another.

The movie also shows how challenges in people’s love lives can affect them and how they manage the situation.

According to Olakunri, the plot of the movie is not like any other love story because there are many facets of love.

“This is about grief;  it’s about life; it’s about challenges you face in everyday life and how you use friendship, sorority to tackle your problems.

“Each of them had challenges, not just with relationship challenges but at the end of the day, it’s important to have some sense of togetherness.

“It’s not just about love but about relationships and about the healing powers relationships have for us,” he said.

Olakunri said it was challenging bringing in experienced and new creatives  to work together and also moving most of the cast from Lagos to Abuja, where the movie was set.

He, however, said that bringing three actresses, Rita Dominic, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Michelle Dede, who were friends in real-life, helped because they were able to transfer their relationship into the movie.

According to him, the movie will be released on Prime Video on Dec. 29.

Olakunri called on Nigerians to develop and nuture healthy relationships that support and help them overcome life’s challenges.

Olakunri also urged government to support and encourage Nollywood by offering inducements and tax rebates.

“The movie industry is growing, employing many people and bringing a lot of revenue to Nigeria.

”Movie producers are given tax rebates when filming abroad.

“We are preparing to go and film in the UK and they gave us 50 per cent of our money back.

“It’s important government gets behind the industry because the industry picked itself, generated acclaim all by itself without support,” he said.

Anthony Monjaro, one of the actors, said that the movie addresses the role of friendship and relationships as support systems during challenges.

“This film touches on how friends come together to support one person who has gone through a bereavement and more of them lifting her up.

“When someone goes through that long of situation, they could be suicidal and those friends were going through things as well,” Monjaro said.

The First Features project, spearheaded by Nollywood producing duo, Steve Gukas and Olakunrin, is focused on nurturing and empowering a new generation of visionary film directors.

It provides training and funds the production of the first feature films by these new voices in the Nigerian film industry. (NAN)

Nollywood thriller, “A Tribe called Judah’’ to hit cinemas

By Akotonou Lynient

A Nollywood thriller, “A Tribe called Judah’’, is set to hit cinema screens across Nigeria on Dec. 15, its producer has said.

Ace Nollywood actress and producer of the movie, Funke Akindele, made this known on her Instagram page after the official premiere of the blockbuster in Lagos.

According to Akindele, the movie is directed by Adeoluwa Owu, popularly known as Captain Degzy and distributed by Film One Entertainment.

“The plot of the movie revolves around a woman called Jedidah Judah who has five sons from five different men, all belonging to different tribes.

“The story is so dear to my heart and it has a part of my late mum in it, and it represents the struggles faced by many single parents and mothers in society.

“There is often a stigmatisation surrounding women who have children out of wedlock, as they get labelled with unprintable names with the assumption that their children will amount to nothing.

“The film also sheds some focus on rebellious children, and when they start out being rebellious their families tend to give up on them.

“However, it is important to look for something special in your child; help them nurture their talents, and they will become great with it,’’ Akindele said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the star-studded movie features seasoned actors including, Nse Ikpe Etim, Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson, Ebelle Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, Genoveva Umeh, and Nosa Rex, among others.

Actress Lisa Yaro renovates schools, donates educational materials to IDPs camp

Actress Lisa Yaro renovates schools, donates educational materials to IDPs camp

By Joshua Olomu

Lisa Yaro, Nigerian -American Actress and singer, also known as ‘Queen of the North’, has renovated school buildings and made donations of educational materials for Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Humanitarian artiste handed the renovated classrooms for both children and adult education, notebooks and school uniforms to the IDPs at their camp in Durunmi area on Friday in Abuja.

Yaro told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) that the gesture was part of her ‘Back to School Project’, an educational intervention initiative geared towards ensuring that out-of-school children get education.

“The first time I came here, I saw what was needed, I saw a school that was shut down, so I made a promise that I will have the school reopened.

“I am pleased to announce that we are reopening the school today and we are staffing it with teachers as well as uniforms and blackboards for them to learn.
“For me education is very important, and I want to be a vessel to show people that no matter how big or how small, you can always give back.

“The government cannot do it alone, so we all have to do our own parts and by me doing my part, it is my hope that it will inspire somebody else to do their own.

“We are employing teachers and paying them for the first year and I will renew it again, and Like I said, this is an initial seed that I am planting.

“It is my hope that other people will continue to plant seeds as well and we shall have a beautiful garden in this lives,” she said.

In his remarks, Mr Idriss Halilu, Coordinator and Spokesman for the IDPs camp, commended her for her show of compassion and love towards the less privileged.

According to him, the schools were shut down for some years now because of lack of remuneration for teachers and lack of studying materials for children.

Halilu therefore called on Nigerians of good will and leaders, especially the FCT authorities to pay adequate attention to the welfare of IDPs.

“The school has been closed down since 2017,but today ,we are happy that somebody has reached out, refurbished it, bought uniform, books and furniture for us.

“As I speak, the IDPs’ food come from individuals, 99 percent of the clothes we wear come from individuals, and ignoring the IDPs will not speak well for the future of this country,” he said.

Also, speaking, Mrs Liyatu Ayuba, Women Coordinator of the camp, said : “Many people do come here to make promise and they are not fulfilling the promise.

“But our Queen Lisa has fulfilled her promise for us, as she told us that she is going to repair the school for our children and bring uniforms and bring books and even the teachers.

“They asked us why the teachers are not coming to school always, and we said it is because of the transport fare that they are not coming always.

“ We will not go back to be victim of Boko Haram again, so I am calling on Nigerian government, let us join hand together to the train these children so that they will be the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.(NAN) (nannews.ng)
