Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, Director- General, Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), says President Bola Tinubu-led administration is driving sustainable development and economic growth through advancements in the energy sector.

Abdullahi said this at a dinner in Abuja organised by some Nigerians within and outside the country to celebrate the mid-term of the Tinubu-led government.

The event with the theme: “Two Years of Impact: Honouring Mr President and the Voices of Renewed Hope”, was attended by APC chieftains, government appointees and State Governments representatives among others.

The ECN DG, while speaking on the administration’s solarisation initiatives, said that the Tinubu was not relenting on his oars to make the country better for all.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that solarisation refers to the process of exposing something to sunlight or solar energy, which is in line with the energy transition of the administration.

He highlighted the administration’s strides in driving sustainable development and economic growth through its solarisation initiative.

Abdullahi explained that under the solarisation initiative, all tertiary institutions, universities and primary healthcare centres across the country would be solarised.

He said the commission was already in talks with one of the largest solar panel production companies in the world to set up a solar panel factory in Nigeria to start production.

“The solarisation project is going to be across every state of the federation, not just Abuja alone, it is going to be done in all universities and tertiary institutions.

“This hasn’t been in the news because we don’t like speaking too much, we like being in action,” the DG said.

He particularly applauded Tinubu’s solarisation drive, adding that Nigeria was taking the right place in the global stage.

He also commended the presidency and the Voices of Renewed Hope for their visionary leadership and dedication to meaningful change across the country.

‘’It has been a very, very wonderful two years and I am very grateful being the DG and Chief Executive of the Energy Commission of Nigeria.

“There had been so many transformations, particularly in the energy sector that I am,” he said.

The DG called on Nigerians to continue supporting the Tinubu-led administration and the 2027 re-election bid of the president, saying one good turn deserves another.

He maintained that the administration had the roadmap to set Nigeria on a progressive pathway.

He said the commission had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Energy Engineering Corporation Ltd (CEEC) and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) to boost renewable energy infrastructure.

He said the agreement was a bold step aimed at addressing Nigeria’s long-standing energy challenges through strategic partnerships and innovation.

He explained that the MoU provided a framework for supporting state-level energy planning, expanding energy resource utilisation through solar, wind, and hydroelectric solutions, and developing green energy infrastructure.

Abdullahi said the partnership would also establish the Nigeria-China Renewable Energy Research Centre to foster technological innovation and human capacity development in renewable energy.

He added that the collaboration aligned with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which had already initiated transformative reforms in the power sector.

This, he added, included the constitutional amendment and the signing of the Nigerian Electricity Act 2023.

Mr Ade Omole, Chief host of the dinner and a former Director of the APC Diaspora Campaign Directorate, said that the event was about truth-telling and not mere praise singing.

Omole, also the  Convener of Renewed Hope Global said: “The Tinubu administration is not just counting years, but weighing its impact’’.

According to him, progress has not only emerged but endured under  Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration.

Dr Aliyu Modibo, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on General Duties, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima, lauded Tinubu’s unparalleled commitment to ensuring a Nigeria where all interests were protected.(NAN)

Tinubu’s reforms will ease cost of living soon – Onanuga

Tinubu’s reforms will ease cost of living soon – Onanuga

Mr Bayo Onanuga,  Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, says Nigerians will soon experience a reduction in the cost of living, as the effects of the administration’s economic reforms start to materialise

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos on Sunday, Onanuga stated that the positive effects of President Tinubu’s policies would soon be felt across all segments of the nation.

Onanuga highlighted that President Tinubu had not only introduced progressive reforms but had also tackled challenges that previous administrations avoided.

He added that two years is an insufficient yardstick to fully measure the administration’s achievements, noting that policy experts typically assess the impact of policies over a period of 10 years to 12 years.

“The President’s years in office began with clear policy directions and implementation.

“A lot of reforms have taken place across sectors.

The President has laid down many fundamentals that would ensure growth,” he stated.

He acknowledged that while the positives of the President’s actions over the past two years were gradually trickling down, a significant paradigm shift had occurred in the economy, addressing many pre-existing problems.

Onanuga, while referring to the situation before the subsidy removal, said, “There was no fuel. Many stations were saying no fuel, no fuel.

“What was happening at that time was that the NNPC had reached the bottom point. It had no money to import fuel, it claimed that it was owing suppliers about six billion dollars and the government was owing it about four trillion dollars. So, it could not import any more.”

Addressing concerns about borrowing, Onanuga clarified that it is a common practice globally, with even countries like the U.S. engaging in it.

“Nigeria has abundant resources that we are harnessing, but not as much readily available money as people might think,” he explained.

He stressed that borrowed funds were not squandered but rather used for their intended purposes, citing large-scale projects like the coastal roads that necessitate external financing due to their immense benefits.

Regarding currency devaluation, Onanuga explained that it is a universal economic principle, citing instances where even the UK and the U.S. have resorted to it.

“Even UK and the U.S at some point devalued. These are economic principles that are universal and cannot be changed because it is Nigeria,” he asserted.

He added that the government had made tough decisions and simultaneously created opportunities through infrastructure development, noting that many ongoing road constructions were not initially part of the budget.

Onanuga further stated that Nigeria had seen an increase in production and a rise in disposable income.

He pointed to companies like Nestle and Nigerian Breweries, which initially faced challenges but were now sourcing materials locally and reporting profits.

“This economy has opened up opportunities in many forms for Nigerians. Those who can really exploit it. And they are making money,” he emphasised, giving examples of individuals making profits from exporting agricultural products like cocoa and even zobo.

According to him, many companies are now investing and producing in Nigeria, and these positive shifts will soon become evident and tangible for all Nigerians.

Onanuga stressed the importance of public understanding of the economic context, saying, “We don’t do our people any good when we keep on pushing stories of gloom and doom without allowing them to see the truth, without allowing them to see the context, and without allowing them to know that there’s actually light at the end of the tunnel.” (NAN)

The Yargote Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has announced plans to inaugurate a groundbreaking self-empowerment training programme targeting teenage boys across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The initiative aims to address the long-overlooked challenges faced by boys and steer them toward positive societal roles.

Mrs Anna-Hussaini Pai, Executive Director and Founder of the foundation, revealed the plans during the screening and registration exercise at Kabusa Community.

She emphasised that the foundation intended to enrol at least 100 beneficiaries in each community it visited under the programme titled “Empower the Boy Child Project.”

“This programme is designed not only to impart skills but to foster self-discovery and help the boys realise their full potential.

“Through this after-school programme, we will offer both formal and informal education, teaching essential life skills often neglected in traditional schooling, such as personal hygiene, emotional intelligence, and societal responsibilities,” Pai explained.

Volunteers of the foundation highlighted the critical need for the initiative, noting that the boy child had been neglected in many empowerment efforts to date.

Miss Adze Inki, a volunteer, stressed, “We are determined to change the narrative and restore dignity to the boy child.

“Many societal issues stem from boys lacking guidance during their formative years. This project seeks to redirect that energy positively.

“The empowerment programme, which will run from June through November, will culminate in a summit that brings together participants to celebrate their growth and achievements.”

Mrs Hannah Ayhok, another volunteer, outlined the programme’s broad curriculum, which included lessons on family dynamics, peer pressure, community engagement, and civic duties.

“There is a damaging cultural expectation that boys should suppress their emotions, leading to harmful stereotypes and behaviours.

“Our programme encourages boys to express themselves healthily and to embrace their roles responsibly,”Ayhok noted.

Mrs Theresa Reng, also a volunteer, expressed concern over the number of boys aimlessly roaming streets without direction.

“This initiative offers hope by providing mentorship and counselling, giving these boys a chance to rethink their paths and become productive members of society.”

She said with the “Empower the Boy Child Project,” Yargote Foundation hoped to spark lasting change, empowering boys to become responsible men who contribute positively to their communities. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Minna, June 1, 2025(NAN) Gov. Umar Bago of Niger has called for partnership with the Dangote Group in the exploration and development of the discovered oil blocks in Niger State’s Bida Basin.

Bago said that the group would significantly contribute to the exploration project with its proven expertise in the energy sector in the country.

The governor said this while addressing industry leaders at the Dangote Special Day event at the Niger National Trade Fair in Minna on Saturday.

Bago said that the state was “open for business” regarding Bida Basin oil development, calling for private sector investment and expertise in the state’s hydrocarbon exploration.

The governor, represented by Hamza Sarki, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment, acknowledged Dangote Group’s proven capacity in executing large-scale industrial projects.

He cited the successful delivery of the world’s largest single-train refinery in Nigeria as evidence of its technical expertise and operational excellence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dangote Group is the major sponsor of the 2025 Niger State National Trade Fair.

The Governor described the Bida Basin oil discovery as Niger State’s ticket to economic prosperity, and win-win for partnership with relevant players in the oil sector.

A 2023 geological survey report identified 17 commercially viable oil blocks in Niger, with estimated hydrocarbon reserves projected to sustain production for approximately 70 years.

The Bida Basin, stretching across parts of Niger and Kwara States, has been identified as a promising sedimentary basin with hydrocarbon potential.

Representative of the Dangote Group, Mr Hashem Ahmed, said the company was investing massively in Niger State, adding that it was ready to partner the state to develop its potential.

“The Dangote Rice Mill in Wushishi when completed will enhance local rice production and drastically reduce post-harvest losses. We are also working closely with the Governor’s Office on the Niger Food Initiative—a game-changing agricultural programme.

“We have committed to serving as a guaranteed off taker for 1 million metric tons of paddy rice, creating a stable market and encouraging further private investment.”

Ahmed commended the proactive measures taken by the Bago administration to foster a business-friendly environment and stimulate private sector engagement in economic growth.

He said that the government’s strategic policies, such as the planned establishment of a Free Trade Zone, demonstrate a clear commitment to attracting investment, enhancing trade, and positioning Niger as a hub for industrial and agricultural development.

“For Dangote Group and the broader Organized Private Sector, these initiatives represent a significant and encouraging step forward.

‘’The Free Trade Zone provides a competitive advantage by streamlining business operations, reducing bottlenecks, and creating a conducive ecosystem for large-scale investments,” he said.(NAN)

NCCC condemns Amnesty Int. report on Nigeria’s security situation

NCCC condemns Amnesty Int. report on Nigeria’s security situation

By Aderogba George

The North Central Citizens Council (NCCC), has strongly condemned a recent report by Amnesty International alleging widespread killings by gunmen across several Nigerian states.

The group described the report as a
deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians and tarnish the country’s image globally.

In a statement signed by the Coordinator of the Council, Mohammed Eneji, the NCCC criticized the report as “malicious and misleading”.

The statement is coming on the heels of a publication by Amnesty International claiming that over 10, 217 people have been killed in attacks by gunmen in Benue, Edo, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Sokoto, and Zamfara States since May 29, 2023.

“It is on record that Amnesty International over the years has been a vanguard of misinformation and always in an attempt to discredit the efforts made by the Nigerian government in its war against insecurity.

“According to a report released by an American congressman, the majority of international NGOs, particularly located in North East Nigeria, were founded to further exacerbate insecurity in the region.

“This report, made by Amnesty International, has further vindicated the congressman about those international NGOs who are alleged to be sponsored by elements who are headbent in destroying the images of the country for political gains,” the NCCC said.

Eneji noted that the President Tinubu-led administration has been doing a lot to tackle the insecurity challenge in the country.

“It is no news that Nigeria is currently faced with security challenges and the government of the day, ably led by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has been working tirelessly to see to the end of insecurity and banditry.

“The figures and claims made by the above mentioned body do not align with verified government data.

“Several of the figures and assertions contained therein are inconsistent with verified data in Nigeria’s possession.

“A lot of gains have been achieved under the National Security adviser in person of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu on insecurity, and we believe that the situation will continue to improve,” the NCCC said.

Eneji called on Amnesty International and similar organisations to desist from spreading unverified information.

The NCCC warned that further attempts to incite public distrust against the government could result in legal action and mass protests.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Walson-Jack said this while delivering her speech during the May edition of the monthly Walking/Jogging and Aerobics organised by the Federation of the Public Service Games (FEPSGA) on Saturday in Abuja.

She said that the event would attract key stakeholders and experts in public administration from across the globe.

“The Week would feature various activities, including a special walking/jogging exercise on June 28 and an Awards Night for recognition and reward.

“We must all participate actively. As our Civil Service anthem says, we are marching to greatness,” she said.

Walson-Jack, who served as the Chief Guest Jogger and Captain, commended the event as a testament to the commitment of public servants to healthy living and workplace productivity.

She applauded FEPSGA President, Mr Amaebi Aluko, and his team for promoting physical wellness and unity across the service through regular fitness initiatives.

The Head of Service also expressed gratitude to the government and people of Rivers for successfully hosting the 2024 edition of the Games, describing their hospitality as instrumental to its success.

Walson-Jack said that her participation in the monthly exercise dated back to her time as a director and later as a permanent secretary.

“Physical wellness is not just a personal goal; it is a public service imperative. A healthy civil servant is a productive one. As leaders, we must not only preach wellness but lead by example,” she said.

She encouraged all civil servants, regardless of rank or fitness level, to make exercise a part of their lifestyle, describing it as a personal responsibility and a contribution to a vibrant and effective public service.

Aluko, on his part, commended the HCSF for her unwavering support for sports and wellness in the public sector.

The FEPSGA president described Walson-Jack’s presence as a strong endorsement of the role of sports in enhancing productivity and efficiency across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“We give God the glory. The Federation of Public Service Games is a product of the vision and commitment of the current Head of Civil Service, even from her days as a Permanent Secretary,” he said.

Also, Mrs Patience Oyekunle, Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Office of HCSF, called on public servants to prioritise their physical and mental well-being in order to enhance productivity and service delivery.

Oyekunle described the exercise as a bold step towards fostering a healthier, more energised and resilient workforce.

FCT rural road interventions ‘ll boost food security – Wike

FCT rural road interventions ‘ll boost food security – Wike

By Philip Yatai

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, said the ongoing road construction in rural communities of the nation’s capital will boost food security.

Wike said this in Abuja on Saturday, after he inspected ongoing projects in the territory in preparation for inauguration to celebrate President Bola Tinubu second anniversary.

Some of the projects included the completed Market and Palace Road in Gwagwalada, completed 15-kilometre A2 to Pai and the ongoing 15.4-km Pai to Gumani in Kwali Area Council.

The minister also inspected the ongoing dualisation of Ushafa to Military Checkpoint and War College Roads in Bwari Area Council.

Wike, who marvelled at the vast arable land between Pai to Gumani, said that access roads in rural communities would significantly boost agricultural production and impact food security in the long run.

“When we inaugurated the road project, where we stopped was from A2 to Pai, which has been completed, and then Pai to Gumani which is ongoing.

“But we never saw the expanse of the road because there was no road to drive on. Thank God we were able to go there today, and you can see the vast land.

“We should not be talking about food insecurity in Nigeria – look at the land; look at the water that could be used for irrigation.

“It’s just leadership and I belief with the leadership we have today under Tinubu, you will see what is going to happen in those areas,” he said.

He added that not much was being done in rural areas in terms of agriculture because there was no access road and the lands were not being put to good agricultural use.

He expresses confidence that with the ongoing roads construction in rural communities, more lands would be utilised for mechanise agriculture.

“This will boost agricultural production and significantly impact food security.

“Without roads people that want to invest in mechanised agriculture will not be encouraged,” he said.

Describing roads as the “centrepiece and the cornerstone” of every development anywhere in the world, the minister pointed out that roads attract other development projects.

He said that with roads other things would follow, “you can go and build schools; you can go and build health facilities, but when roads are not there you can do little or nothing”.

To further improve road connectivity in rural areas, the minister revealed that he had directed the Director of Satellite Towns Development Department to extend the Pai to Gumani road project by another 13-killomtre.

He said that the road would be extended to connect Gumani and Yangoje, also in Kwali Area Council.

“The road when completed will be more than 43 kilometres from A2 (Abuja – Lokoja Expressway) to Yangoje.

“We are happy with what we have done and you can see the people are happy.

“This is what development is all about and this is what it means to provide dividends of democracy to the people,” he said. (NAN)

New NSCC D-G assumes office, promises inclusion of senior citizens

New NSCC D-G assumes office, promises inclusion of senior citizens

By Philomina Attah

The newly appointed Director-General, National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) Mrs Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, has pledged to lead a renaissance in the care and inclusion of Nigeria’s senior citizens.

Akinyemi-Obe said this when she officially assumed office, during the hand-over ceremony in Abuja on Friday.

She promised a future where Nigeria’s elders are not only cared for but celebrated as vital contributors to the nation’s ongoing story.

In her speech, with the theme, “Restoring Dignity, Enabling Purpose”, she expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting her with the role.

She said that her appointment was not a privilege but a solemn responsibility to honour those who had shaped the nation.

“In line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, we are committed to building a compassionate, inclusive society.

“We will ensure that no citizen is left behind, especially those who have laboured through the decades to build this great nation,” she said.

Akinyemi-Obe promised to champion dignity in retirement, quality healthcare, lifelong learning, protection from abuse and a strong voice for senior citizens in national affairs.

She commended her predecessor, Dr. Emem Omokaro, for pioneering leadership, and vowing to build on her legacy.

“We are not starting from scratch. We are building on a foundation of dedication and excellence,” she said.

Recognising the NSCC staff as the engine of progress, Akinyemi-Obe pledged to prioritise their welfare, enhance workplace conditions and foster a culture of innovation and recognition.

she said that caring for elders was a collective responsibility, and called on all sectors, government, private organisations, NGOs, faith-based groups, and the youth to key into the gesture

“Together, we will weave a safety net of care, respect and opportunity for our elders.

“To Nigeria’s senior citizens, you are not forgotten. You are not a burden. You are the living libraries of our nation, the guardians of our values, the beacons of resilience.

“We see you. We celebrate you. We are here for you.

“Let us be the generation that made ageing in Nigeria a catalyst and not a crisis for compassion, for inclusion and for national renewal,” she said.

Earlier, the outgoing D-G of the Centre said that under her stewardship,NSCC achieved historic milestones.

She highlighted the development of Nigeria’s first comprehensive policy on ageing; the establishment of action plans and programmes tailored for older persons and the creation of legislative foundations that shifted national narratives.

“We built the systems and engagement mechanisms to reach stakeholders and older persons wherever they are.

“A particularly proud achievement was the launch of empowerment programmes and the rigorous needs assessment conducted across the country.

“We proved, with evidence, that older persons are still capable and contributing. There are published reports that now serve as blueprints for further action,” she said.

Omokaro also addressed the evolving care economy, noting the challenges faced by families and the critical need for professional caregiving.

She celebrated the establishment of national standards for geriatric care, the creation of a skills council, and the accreditation of teaching hospitals.

According to her, all of this promise to create jobs and set new benchmarks for quality care.

As she handed over a comprehensive report documenting the NSCC’s foundational years, she expressed her trust and confidence in the incoming D-G.

“My sister, this is all we have done in four years. You can call it the foundation, but I know you are going to set the roof on it,” she said. (NAN)
