The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) and Helpline Foundation for the Needy, Abuja, an NGO, are partnering on areas to improve the lives of women and children in the country.

The National President of POWA, Mrs Elizabeth Egbatokun, made this known when she led a delegation of the executives of the association on a courtesy visit to the Founder of the foundation, on Tuesday in Abuja.

She noted that the two bodies share the same vision of impacting positively on the less privileged, especially women and children.

“We have heard so much about your organisation, Helpline Foundation for the Needy, and we felt there is the need to work together with a view to creating a mutual relationship that will benefit our women.

“Basically, we are ready to tap from your wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of girl child education, women empowerment through the agricultural value chain.

“We see agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth and a tool for lifting millions of our women from the shackles of poverty. It will also serve as our modest contribution to food security agenda of the present government,” Egbatokun stressed.

Responding, the foundation’s President, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, who appreciated the team for the visit, commended the present leadership of POWA for the foresight.

She, however, expressed the willingness to partner with POWA towards the establishment of demonstration farms in some selected area councils across the territory.

She stressed that such move would add value to the Food Bank initiative of Helpline Foundation.

Mrs Ahmadu, who is also the Co-convener of the Africa Women Conference used the occasion to inform the team that the 7th Edition of the Africa Women Conference, would take place in Mauritius in November 2023.

She further stated that the forthcoming women’s conference would be a platform to interact with other women from across the world, just as she called for the participation of POWA at the conference.

Those present were Mrs Bilkisu Danmallam (Wife of a Deputy Inspector General of Police – DIG), Mrs Aisha Inuwa (Wife of avDIG), Mrs Poola Adeleke (Wife of a DIG), Mrs. Salamatu Habu Sani (Wife of an AIG), amongst others. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Breastfeeding doesn’t cause breast to sag, says experts

Breastfeeding doesn’t cause breast to sag, says experts

Nutrition experts at the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and Nutrition International, an NGO, say that breastfeeding does not affect the firmness of a mother’s breast.

The experts made this known during an orientation for the media on optimal breastfeeding in commemoration of the 2023 World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) on Monday in Abuja.

Dr Temidayo Odebunmi, Head, Infant and Young Child Feeding, Nutrition Division, FMoH, while highlighting the benefits of optimal breastfeeding, dispelled the misconception that breastfeeding made the breast to distort and sag.

“Breastfeeding does not make a child to eat less; neither does it make the breast to sag.

“You must feed the babies with patience, little by little and with variety of nutritional foods to make the breast milk flow adequately for the child to thrive on.’’

According to her, breastfeeding does not cause sagging, rather certain factors such as little or no exercise, unbalanced diet; lack of good supports like wearing of bra and others contribute to the non-firmness of breast.

“The breasts sag as a woman grows older as the firmness of a breast is affected by the age and other factors, not necessarily breastfeeding.’’

Similarly, Mr Babajide Adebisi, Deputy Director, Nutrition International, highlighted the need to adhere to optimal breastfeeding practices to ensure a child gets adequate nutrients from breast milk.

Adebisi, while also adding that breastfeeding did not make a breast sag, encouraged mothers to consume healthy food, maintain healthy lifestyle and ensure that the babies were exclusively fed with breast milk from zero to six months.

He also urged employers to create a conducive and flexible workspace for parents to breastfeed their babies properly.

Mrs Grace Mogekwu, Chief Scientific Officer, Social Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC), FMoH, stressed the need for optimal breastfeeding practices one hour after delivery, exclusive breastfeeding for six months, continual breastfeeding and complementary feeding for at least two years.

“We are not encouraging the use of infant formula, except on rare occasions, where necessary due to some factors.

“And when it is introduced, it must be practiced under strict hygienic environment in a safe storage facilities, ’she said.

Mogekwu said the advantages of breastfeeding include perfect nutrients, easily digested efficiency used, protects against infection, cost less, helps delay a new pregnancy and protect mother’s health.

She also discouraged the use of feeding bottle, artificial teats or pacifier to infants and young babies, describing them as factors contributing to ill health.

On his part, Mr Sunday Baba, Director, Public Communication and National Orientation, Federal Ministry of Information, said the training was to support the Food and Nutrition Media Team with skills to promote nutrition in the country.

“It goes without saying that a healthy population is a profitable one and without food and good nutrition, a healthy population is unattainable,’’ he said.

Baba, therefore, encouraged the media team to use their various platforms towards encouraging breastfeeding, which would address the issue of malnutrition and other health challenges affecting women and children. (NAN) www.nannews.ng

Ohaneze urges Igbos to discountenance “Sit-at-home “order by Ekpa

Ohaneze urges Igbos to discountenance “Sit-at-home “order by Ekpa

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, has urged Igbos to discountenance the two weeks “Sit-at-home“ order by the factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa.

The organisation implored all the sons and daughters of Igboland to go about their lawful businesses.

This is contained in a statement by the group’s President-General,Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, on Monday in Enugu.

Iwuanyanwu, while condemning the incessant call for “Sit-at-home“ in the South-East by Ekpa, estimated that no fewer  than 250 people in the region had lost their lives through the enforcement of the order.

He said it was very disheartening that the people of South-East were being subjected to hardships by the incessant calls for “Sit-at-home“ and stressed that several non-state actors, in an attempt to enforce the order, had unleashed mayhem on the people.

He described the development as ‘unfortunate’.

“As a result, several people have been killed, maimed and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed.

“In addition, the order has been instilling fears and trepidation in the good people of the zone, making it difficult for people to come out to transact their lawful businesses on the “Sit-at-home“ days,” he said.

The president-general of the Igbo group said the region was noted for micro, small and medium-scale enterprises, indigenous manufacturing, fabrication and agro-allied industries.

Several authorities, according to him, have put the losses encountered by the people of zone at trillions of naira each day the “Sit-at- home“ is enforced.

`The South-East has witnessed loss of clients and customers who find alternatives because of the unstable business environment in the zone …Food transporters to the South-East charge more for a trip to the Igboland because of these “Sit-at-home“ orders.

“Furthermore, the insecurity and unknown gunmen have been on the increase because of the “Sit-at-home“ order and it is saddening to see that Mr Simon Ekpa has announced another two weeks “Sit-at-home“ in the South-East.

“This is unacceptable and must not be allowed to succeed in Igboland,” Iwuanyanwu said.

Iwuanyanwu explained that a few days ago, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed IPOB,  on whose behalf Ekpa claimed to be working, had directed the said Simon Ekpa  “to end all sit-at-home in the South-East.

According him, Kanu urged Ekpa to stop antagonising the governors of the South-East or politicians from the region.

He said it was very disturbing that at a time the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide was engaging the Igbo entrepreneurs all over the world, on a “Think-Home“ philosophy, a foreign-based Igbo was bent on destabilising the home front.

“It is evident that the series of sit-at- home order is affecting the social and economic life of the Igbos and it is not to the advantage of the Igbos.

“As a father, I hereby request Mr Simon Ekpa and his group for a discussion and an opportunity to air their grievances.

“I urge the security operatives to exercise the highest degree of prudence in the discharge of their official duties to avoid further loss of innocent lives in Igboland.

“’I wish  on behalf of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide to commend the South-East Governors in their effort to put a stop to the sit-at-home order.

“My sympathy goes to the families who had lost loved ones and properties during this sad and unfortunate events,“ Iwuanyanwu said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Expert wants journalists to embrace AI for social media effectiveness

Expert wants journalists to embrace AI for social media effectiveness

By Stephen Adeleye

A Digital Forensic Expert, Isa Ali, on Monday urged professional journalists to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI), to be more effective on social media.

Musa gave the advice while speaking with journalists after one-day training for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Journalists.

The training, which had the theme: “Effective Cause of Social Media”, was organised by the Stallion Times Media in Conjunction with the MacArthur Foundation in Lokoja.

The forensic expert advised journalists to try as much as possible to be professional, when using social media to distinguish themselves from novices.

Ali, who is a Research Scholar, stressed the need for professional journalists to learn artificial intelligence, especially as related to journalism.

He said that knowledge of AI would give them an edge on social media platforms.

According to him, the best way to be a professional journalist is to learn more about AI for social media, as it remains a major challenge.

“There is software you can use now to create a radio or television station as well as online newspapers.

“You will just set all the parameters, then go home and sleep, while the artificial intelligence through ‘operational intelligence algorithm’ will work on its own.

“It will broadcast news without anybody in the studio, and also write and publish news. This is going to be the key challenge for journalists,” Ali said.

The research scholar emphasised the need for journalists to up their game, and learn all the new technologies related to their profession.

He noted that fake news was spreading fast on social media because professional journalists had been left behind when it came to generating news stories for circulation.

Ali called on Kogi journalists to take over the social media platforms and contents, by creating online presence on all platforms.

He urged the journalists to project and report any activity that would promote transparency and accountability in governance, particularly in Kogi.

“When there is a story and it comes from a source that is more genuine, it generates more traffic because the person that posted first would have more followers.

“So, journalists in Kogi have to stand on their feet and be the first line of breaking news in the state, and even outside the state,” Ali said.

The forensic expert made presentations on various topics, such as, “The Basics of Social Media”, “Social Media and Effective Content Development”, Using Social Media to Build Relationships”, and “How to Use Social Media to Tell Stories.”

He urged professional journalists to utilise the training opportunity by publishing accurate, fair and balanced stories to the satisfaction of the populace.

The scholar charged professional journalists to exhibit high moral code by maintaining transparency, attribution, fact checking and retracting or correcting stories found to be incorrect.

Earlier, Mr Isiyaku Ahmed, the Project Coordinator, Stallion Times, said the nexus between CSOs and journalism was advocacy.

He urged journalists and CSOs to collaborate and leverage on social media potentials to achieve advocacy goals.

“As journalists, harnessing the power of social media is essential for researching a broader audience and staying connected with your readers.

“This training will equip participants with fundamental knowledge and skills to navigate the social media landscape,” Ahmed said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Palliatives: FG to provide N200 Bln intervention for food, agric.

The Federal Government has approved N200 billion as intervention for provision of stable food and agricultural inputs.

President Bola Tinubu made the announcement in a nationwide broadcast tagged: “After Darkness Comes the Glorious Dawn’’ on Monday in Abuja.

He said the intervention would ensure that prices of food items remained affordable, adding that the government had the buy-in of farmers’ associations and operators in the agriculture value-chain.

‘’In the short and immediate terms, we will ensure staple foods are available and affordable.

“To this end, I have ordered the release of 200,000 metric tonnes of grains from strategic reserves to farmers across the 36 states and FCT to moderate prices.

‘’We are also providing 225,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser, seedlings and other inputs to farmers, who are committed to our food security agenda.

“Our plan to support cultivation of 500,000 hectares of farmland and all-year-round farming practice remains on course.

‘’To be specific, N200 billion out of theN500 billion approved by the National Assembly will be disbursed (for this).’’

Tinubu said that his administration would also invest N50 billion each to cultivate 150,000 hectares of rice and maize, while N50 billion each would also be ear-marked to cultivate 100,000 hectares of wheat and cassava.

The president added that an expansive agricultural programme would be implemented, targeting small-holder farmers and leveraging large-scale private sector players in the agriculture business with a strong performance record.

“In this regard, the expertise of development finance institutions, commercial banks and microfinance banks will be tapped into, to develop a viable and an appropriate transaction structure for all stakeholders.’’

Tinubu said that the Federal Government was also collaborating with the other two-tiers of government toward ensuring that various palliatives initiated by the administration got down to the grassroots.

‘’It is in the light of this that I approved the Infrastructure Support Fund for the states.

‘’This new infrastructure fund will enable states to intervene and invest in critical areas and bring relief to many of the pain points as well as revamp our decaying healthcare and educational infrastructure.

‘’The fund will also bring improvements to rural access roads to ease evacuation of farm produce to markets.

“With the fund, our states will become more competitive and on a stronger financial footing to deliver economic prosperity to Nigerians.’’

The president also announced the provision of buses to states and local government areas for mass transit at affordable rates.

‘’We have made provision to invest N100 billion between July 2023 and March to acquire 3,000 units of 20-seater CNG-fuelled buses.

‘’These buses will be shared to major transportation companies in the states, using the intensity of travel per capital.

“Participating transport companies will be able to access credit under this facility at nine per cent per annum with a 60-month repayment period,’’ the president stated.

On minimum wage for workers, Tinubu said that budget provision would be made immediately an agreement was reached with labour unions.

‘’In the same vein, we are also working in collaboration with the labour unions to introduce a new national minimum wage for workers.

‘’I want to tell our workers this: your salary review is coming.

“Once we agree on the new minimum wage and general upward review, we will make budget provision for it for immediate implementation.’’

The president used the broadcast to urge Nigerians to continue to bear with the decision on fuel subsidy removal and the preferential exchange rate system.

He promised that the decisions were based on the long-term benefit to the national economy and socio-political well-being of citizens.

‘’For several years, I have consistently maintained the position that fuel subsidy had to go. This once beneficial measure had out-lived its utility.

‘’The subsidy cost us trillions of naira yearly. Such a vast sum of money would have been better spent on public transportation, healthcare, schools, housing and even national security.

“Instead, it was being funneled into the deep pockets and lavish bank accounts of a select group of individuals.

‘’Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us and there is no doubt about it that it is tough on us.

“But I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture.

“All of our good and helpful plans are in the works. More importantly, I know that they will work.

‘’Sadly, there was an unavoidable lag between subsidy removal and these plans coming fully online.

“However, we are swiftly closing the time gap. I plead with you to please have faith in our ability to deliver and in our concern for your well-being.’’

Tinubu called for the support of all Nigerians of goodwill in the fight against those that had benefited from the flawed economic policies of the past and who were fighting back.

‘’As we move to fight the flaws in the economy, the people who grow rich from them predictably will fight back through every means necessary.

‘’Our economy is going through a tough patch and you are being hurt by it. The cost of fuel has gone up.

“Food and other prices have followed it. Households and businesses are struggling.

‘’Things seem anxious and uncertain. I understand the hardships you face.

“I wish there were other ways. But there is not. If there were, I would have taken that route as I came here to help not hurt the people and nation that I love.

‘’What I can offer in the immediate future is to reduce the burden our current economic situation has imposed on all of us, most especially on businesses, the working class and the most vulnerable among us,’’ he said.

The president commended state governments that had put in place one palliative measure or the other to ensure that their citizens overcame the pains of the subsidy removal. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

TEXT OF THE NATIONAL BROADCAST BY PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU TO NIGERIANS ON CURRENT ECONOMIC CHALLENGES.

AFTER DARKNESS COMES THE GLORIOUS DAWN

My fellow citizens,

I want to talk to you about our economy. It is important that you understand the reasons for the policy measures I have taken to combat the serious economic challenges this nation has long faced.

2. I am not going to talk in difficult terms by dwelling on economic jargon and concepts. I will speak in plain, clear language so that you know where I stand. More importantly, so that you see and hopefully will share my vision regarding the journey to a better, more productive economy for our beloved country.

3. For several years, I have consistently maintained the position that the fuel subsidy had to go. This once beneficial measure had outlived its usefulness. The subsidy cost us trillions of Naira yearly. Such a vast sum of money would have been better spent on public transportation, healthcare, schools, housing and even national security. Instead, it was being funnelled into the deep pockets and lavish bank accounts of a select group of individuals.

4. This group had amassed so much wealth and power that they became a serious threat to the fairness of our economy and the integrity of our democratic governance. To be blunt, Nigeria could never become the society it was intended to be as long as such small, powerful yet unelected groups hold enormous influence over our political economy and the institutions that govern it.

5. The whims of the few should never hold dominant sway over the hopes and aspirations of the many. If we are to be a democracy, the people and not the power of money must be sovereign.

6. The preceding administration saw this looming danger as well. Indeed, it made no provision in the 2023 Appropriations for subsidy after June this year.  Removal of this once helpful device that had transformed into a millstone around the country’s neck had become inevitable.

7. Also, the multiple exchange rate system that had been established became nothing but a highway of currency speculation. It diverted money that should have been used to create jobs, build factories and businesses for millions of people. Our national wealth was doled on favourable terms to a handful of people who have been made filthy rich simply by moving money from one hand to another. This too was extremely unfair.

8. It also compounded the threat that the illicit and mass accumulation of money posed to the future of our democratic system and its economy.

9. I had promised to reform the economy for the long-term good by fighting the major imbalances that had plagued our economy.  Ending the subsidy and the preferential exchange rate system were key to this fight. This fight is to define the fate and future of our nation. Much is in the balance.

10. Thus, the defects in our economy immensely profited a tiny elite, the elite of the elite you might call them. As we moved to fight the flaws in the economy, the people who grow rich from them, predictably, will fight back through every means necessary.

11. Our economy is going through a tough patch and you are being hurt by it. The cost of fuel has gone up. Food and other prices have followed it. Households and businesses struggle. Things seem anxious and uncertain. I understand the hardship you face. I wish there were other ways. But there is not. If there were, I would have taken that route as I came here to help not hurt the people and nation that I love.

12. What I can offer in the immediate is to reduce the burden our current economic situation has imposed on all of us, most especially on businesses, the working class and the most vulnerable among us.

13. Already, the Federal Government is working closely with states and local governments to implement interventions that will cushion the pains of our people across socio-economic brackets.

14. Earlier this month, I signed four (4) Executive Orders in keeping with my electoral promise to address unfriendly fiscal policies and multiple taxes that are stifling the business environment. These Executive Orders on suspension and deferred commencement of some taxes will provide the necessary buffers and headroom to businesses in the manufacturing sector to continue to thrive and expand.

15. To strengthen the manufacturing sector, increase its capacity to expand and create good paying jobs, we are going to spend N75 billion between July 2023 and March 2024. Our objective is to fund 75 enterprises with great potential to kick-start a sustainable economic growth, accelerate structural transformation and improve productivity. Each of the 75 manufacturing enterprises will be able to access N1 Billion credit at 9% per annum with maximum of 60 months repayment for long term loans and 12 months for working capital.

16. Our administration recognises the importance of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and the informal sector as drivers of growth. We are going to energise this very important sector with N125 billion.

17. Out of the sum, we will spend N50 billion on Conditional Grant to 1 million nano businesses between now and March 2024. Our target is to give N50,000 each to 1,300 nano business owners in each of the 774 local governments across the country.

18. Ultimately, this programme will further drive financial inclusion by onboarding beneficiaries into the formal banking system. In like manner, we will fund 100,000 MSMEs and start-ups with N75 billion. Under this scheme, each enterprise promoter will be able to get between N500,000 to N1million at 9% interest per annum and a repayment period of 36 months.

19. To further ensure that prices of food items remain affordable, we have had a multi-stakeholder engagement with various farmers’ associations and operators within the agricultural value chain.

20. In the short and immediate terms, we will ensure staple foods are available and affordable. To this end, I have ordered the release of 200,000 Metric Tonnes of grains from strategic reserves to households across the 36 states and FCT to moderate prices. We are also providing 225,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer, seedlings and other inputs to farmers who are committed to our food security agenda.

21. Our plan to support cultivation of 500,000 hectares of farmland and all-year-round farming practice remains on course. To be specific, N200 billion out of the N500 billion approved by the National Assembly will be disbursed as follows:

-Our administration will invest N50 billion each to cultivate 150,000 hectares of rice and maize.

-N50 billion each will also be earmarked to cultivate 100,000 hectares of wheat and cassava.

22. This expansive agricultural programme will be implemented targeting small-holder farmers and leveraging large-scale private sector players in the agric business with strong performance record.

23. In this regard, the expertise of Development Finance Institutions, commercial banks and microfinance banks will be tapped into to develop a viable and an appropriate transaction structure for all stakeholders.

24. Fellow Nigerians, I made a solemn pledge to work for you. How to improve your welfare and living condition is of paramount importance to me and it’s the only thing that keeps me up day and night.

25. It is in the light of this that I approved the Infrastructure Support Fund for the States. This new Infrastructure Fund will enable States to intervene and invest in critical areas and bring relief to many of the pain points as well as revamp our decaying healthcare and educational Infrastructure.

26. The fund will also bring improvements to rural access roads to ease evacuation of farm produce to markets. With the fund, our states will become more competitive and on a stronger financial footing to deliver economic prosperity to Nigerians.

27. Part of our programme is to roll out buses across the states and local governments for mass transit at a much more affordable rate. We have made provision to invest N100 billion between now and March 2024 to acquire 3000 units of 20-seater CNG-fuelled buses.

28. These buses will be shared to major transportation companies in the states, using the intensity of travel per capital. Participating transport companies will be able to access credit under this facility at 9% per annum with 60 months repayment period.

29. In the same vein, we are also working in collaboration with the Labour unions to introduce a new national minimum wage for workers. I want to tell our workers this: your salary review is coming.

30. Once we agree on the new minimum wage and general upward review, we will make budget provision for it for immediate implementation.

31. I want to use this opportunity to salute many private employers in the Organised Private Sector who have already implemented general salary review for employees.

32. Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us and there is no doubt about it that it is tough on us. But I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture. All of our good and helpful plans are in the works. More importantly, I know that they will work.

33. Sadly, there was an unavoidable lag between subsidy removal and these plans coming fully online. However, we are swiftly closing the time gap. I plead with you to please have faith in our ability to deliver and in our concern for your well-being.

34. We will get out of this turbulence. And, due to the measures we have taken, Nigeria will be better equipped and able to take advantage of the future that awaits her.

35. In a little over two months, we have saved over a trillion Naira that would have been squandered on the unproductive fuel subsidy which only benefitted smugglers and fraudsters. That money will now be used more directly and more beneficially for you and your families.

36. For example, we shall fulfill our promise to make education more affordable to all and provide loans to higher education students who may need them. No Nigerian student will have to abandon his or her education because of lack of money.

37. Our commitment is to promote the greatest good for the greatest number of our people. On this principle, we shall never falter.

38. We are also monitoring the effects of the exchange rate and inflation on gasoline prices. If and when necessary, we will intervene.

39. I assure you my fellow country men and women that we are exiting the darkness to enter a new and glorious dawn.

40. Now, I must get back to work in order to make this vision come true.

41. Thank you all for listening and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of over N275 billion for the immediate resuscitation of the manufacturing and the Micro, Small and Medium-sized enterprises (MSME).

In a nationwide broadcast to the nation on Monday, Tinubu said that was part of the Federal Government efforts to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on Nigeria and its people.

‘’To strengthen the manufacturing sector, increase its capacity to expand and create good paying jobs, we are going to spend N75 billion between July 2023 and March 2024.

‘’Our objective is to fund 75 enterprises with great potential to kick-start sustainable economic growth, accelerate structural transformation and improve productivity.

”Each of the 75 manufacturing enterprises will be able to access N1 Billion credit at 9 per cent per annum with maximum of 60 months repayment for long term loans and 12 months for working capital.’’

On MSME, the president said that N125 billion would be made available to energise the sector as a key driver of growth of the economy.

‘’Our administration recognises the importance of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and the informal sector as drivers of growth. We are going to energise this very important sector with N125 billion.

‘’Out of the sum, we will spend N50 billion on Conditional Grant to 1 million Nano businesses between July 2023 and March 2024.

‘’Our target is to give N50,000 each to 1,300 Nano business owners in each of the 774 local governments across the country. Ultimately, this programme will further drive financial inclusion by onboarding beneficiaries into the formal banking system,’’ he said.

Similarly, Tinubu announced another N75 billion for 100,000 MSME start-ups at nine per cent interest rate payable in 36 months.

‘’In like manner, we will fund 100,000 MSMEs and start-ups with N75 billion. Under this scheme, each enterprise promoter will be able to get between N500,000 to N1million at 9% interest per annum and a repayment period of 36 months.

The president said that the government was able to save more than one trillion Naira from the petrol subsidy removal which would be used to further develop different socio-economic sectors in the country.

‘’In a little over two months, we have saved over a trillion Naira that would have been squandered on the unproductive fuel subsidy which only benefitted smugglers and fraudsters.

‘’That money will now be used more directly and more beneficially for you and your families. For example, we shall fulfill our promise to make education more affordable to all and loans to students who may need them.

‘’No Nigerian student will have to abandon higher education because of lack of money. Our commitment is to promote the greatest good for the greatest number of our people. On this principle, we shall never falter.

‘’We are also monitoring the effects of the exchange rate and inflation on gasoline prices. If and when necessary, we will intervene.

‘’I assure you my fellow country men and women that we are exiting the darkness to enter a new and glorious dawn,’’ Tinubu said.(NAN)
