Emergency rule: Tinubu acted in national interest- TDF

The Democratic Front (TDF) has joined other patriotic groups and notable Nigerians to defend President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

This is contained in a statement by its Chairman, Malam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The TDF described it as a bold move to prevent a total breakdown of law and order following protracted political rancour between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.

“We recall that less than a week before the presidential proclamation, the President hosted the leadership of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) in Abuja where he advised on quick implementation of the Supreme Court Judgement that recognized the 27 members of the State Assembly.

“Subsequently, The Democratic Front issued a statement after the event on the need to heed President Tinubu’s advice in obeying the Supreme Court Judgement, and also explore the window of reconciliation which was initiated by the President over a year ago.

“Unfortunately, PANDEF was not able to strike any reasonable compromise with the parties in the dispute, which has paralyzed the administration of the state with severe consequences on economic development in nearly two years.

“It was evident that both parties in the political dispute were not prepared to work together in the interest of the state.

“In our view, no responsible President or government will stay passive and watch the rapid degeneration of state affairs from an orderly democratic system anchored on the principle of the Rule of Law to condone lawlessness and look away from the theatre of a contrived balance of terror, as evident in the bombing of pipelines.

“We also welcome the unanimous approval of the State of Emergency by both chambers of the National Assembly, because we believe that President Tinubu acted in the interest of peace and security of residents of the state.”

TDF urge all the parties in the conflict to see the six months of the emergency rule as another opportunity to seek a peaceful end to their differences.(NAN)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited board, removing the chairman, Chief Pius Akinyelure and the group chief executive officer, Malam Mele Kyari.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, indicates that the President  removed all other board members appointed with Akinyelure and Kyari in November 2023.

The new 11-man board has Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman.

Adedapo Segun, who replaced Umaru Isa Ajiya as the chief financial officer last November, has been appointed to the new board by President Tinubu.

Six board members, non-executive directors, represent the country’s geopolitical zones. They are Bello Rabiu, North West, Yusuf Usman, North East, and Babs Omotowa, a former managing director of the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas( NLNG), who represents North Central.

Tinubu appointed Austin Avuru as a non-executive director from the South-South, David Ige as a Non-executive director from the South West, and Henry Obih as a non-executive director from the South East.

Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya, permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, will represent the ministry on the new board, while Aminu Said Ahmed will represent the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

All the appointments are with immediate effect.

Tinubu, invoking the powers granted under Section 59, subsection 2 of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, emphasised that the board’s restructuring is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency.

He added that it would restore investor confidence, boost local content, drive economic growth, and advance gas commercialisation and diversification.

The President also handed out an immediate action plan to the new board: to conduct a strategic portfolio review of NNPC-operated and Joint Venture Assets to ensure alignment with value maximisation objectives.

Since 2023, the Tinubu administration has implemented oil sector reforms to attract investment.

In 2024, NNPC reported $17 billion in new investments within the sector.

The administration now envisions increasing the investment to $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030.

The Tinubu administration targets raising oil production to two million barrels daily by 2027 and three million daily by 2030. Concurrently, the government wants gas production jacked to 8 billion cubic feet daily by 2027 and 10 billion cubic feet by 2030.

Furthermore, Tinubu expects the new board to elevate NNPC’s share of crude oil refining output to 200,000 barrels by 2027 and reach 500,000 by 2030.

The new board chairman, Kida, is from Borno State. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he received a degree in civil engineering in 1984. He also obtained a postgraduate diploma in petroleum engineering from the Institut Francaise du Petrol (IFP) in Paris

He started his career in the oil industry at Elf Petroleum Nigeria and later joined Total Exploration and Production as a trainee engineer in 1985.

Musa became Total Nigeria’s Deputy Managing Director of Deep Water Services in 2015. Last year, he became an Independent Non-Executive Director at Pan Ocean-Newcross Group.

Apart from his oil industry career, Kida is a former basketballer and the president of the Nigerian Basketball Federation(NBBF) board.

Ojulari, the new NNPC Limited Group CEO, hails from Kwara State. Until his new appointment, He was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company.

His Renaissance recently led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in the landmark acquisition of the entire equity holding in the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), worth $2.4 billion.

Like Kida, Ojulari is also an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked for Elf Aquitaine as the first Nigerian process engineer to begin a stellar career in the oil sector.

From Elf, he joined Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd in 1991 as an associate production technologist.

Apart from working in Nigeria, he worked in Europe and the Middle East in different capacities as a petroleum process and production engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager.

In 2015, he became the managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO).

During his career, he was chairman and member of the board of trustees of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigerian Council) and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Tinubu thanked the old board members for their dedicated service to NNPC Limited, particularly their efforts in rehabilitating the old Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, which enabled them to resume petroleum product production after prolonged shutdowns. He wished them well in their future endeavours.(NAN)

Some experts and professionals have called for massive investment in renewable energy, efficient supply chains and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance businesses and catalyse Nigeria’s economy.

They spoke at the ST. RACHEAL’s People’s Consulting Ltd, 2025 Talent Development and Retention Summit Series 2, titled “Economic Opportunities”, on Saturday in Lagos.

Speaking virtually, a Business Analyst, Mr Oluwadara Adeosun, said that Nigeria was blessed with vast resources which should be explored for economic prosperity and to enhance quality of life.

Emphasising the critical role energy plays in businesses, Adeosun said that massive investment in renewable energy would be a game changer for the country.

Calling for collaboration between the public and private sectors in the development of renewable energy, the analyst said that this would positively impact all sectors of the economy including health and education.

“The opportunity is there should the private sector want to tap into it. It is a collaboration between the private and public.

“The opportunity in Nigeria is massive. We have oceanic waves, lakes, dams and solar.

“When we have more electricity in the country, it will improve quality of life, even our hospitals will be better,” Adeosun said.

Speaking, Dr Solomon Aigbavboa, a Supply Chain Expert, described supply chain as the lifeblood of any business either for individual or government.

According to Aigbavboa, supply chain leads to business success and sustainable sustainability, hence the need to ensure primary and secondary product flows in an effective and efficient manner for economic rebuilding.

He said that businesses needed supply chain because of high incidence of lost sales owing to sub-optimal production and inventory planning, harsh macro economy, inefficient maritime and inland transport distribution among others.

Aigbavboa said that supply chain management was critical in business for cost reduction, improved efficiency, practical action to mitigate risk and for customer satisfaction.

“Supply Chain management must be resilient to stand disruptions and absorb shocks.

“Supply Chain processes must be optimised ensuring consistency, efficiency, quality, and scalability

“If supply chain is not structured well, strong and dynamic, it will affect businesses.

“Supply chain enables businesses success, ensures business agility and responsiveness, sustainability, data -driven decision making, scalability and market expansion.

“We cannot do without supply chain if we must increase business activities,” he said.

He said that challenges of supply chain included power, infrastructure, inefficient distribution process, harsh macro-eneomy, forex, high outbound transport costs, diesels among others.

Also speaking, Head of Microsoft, Nigeria and Ghana, Mrs Olatomiwa Williams, who spoke on AI, said that the innovation was transforming businesses and unlocking economic growth for nations.

Williams, who joined virtually, said that any organisation could harness and adopt AI to drive efficiency and effectiveness, saying “AI is already fueling global economic space. A nation that adopts it will lead”.

According to her, Nigeria has a golden opportunity to leverage AI in key economic sectors including agriculture, finance, education, medicical diagnostics and prescription, manufacturing sector among others to compete with the rest of the world.

“AI has enormous opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs. It develops solutions, increases efficiency, job creations.

“We must continue to invest in AI innovations.

“It is important for everyone to collaborate. We need to look into our educational curriculum to ensure AI is embedded. AI revolution is not waiting for us, we must act faster.

“Business leaders should adopt AI, policy makers should create enabling environments for AI growth.

“Youths should embrace learning not just as customer but as innovators to grant economic prosperity, create new jobs and secure Nigeria,” Williams said.

She listed the challenges in AI ecosystem to include infrastructure, regulation uncertainties among other.

On concerns that AI could stifle creativity, Williams said that AI had not come to stop human creativity but to enhance it.

She, however, said that though Nigerian government had embraced the innovation,  there was still a long way to go in embracing technology.

Other speakers who spoke on businesses, economy and health in the nation included a Sales Expert, Mr Bunmi Adimula; a Tech Law expert, Mrs Ngozi Nwabueze; Mr Orji Uka, a Legal Practitioner with TEMPLARS, among others.

The Lead Visioner and Chairman of ST. RACHEAL’S PHARMA, Mr Akinjide Adeosun, said that the event was to bring in people of diverse backgrounds in their efforts to change the society.

Adeosun urged Nigerian leadership to invest in renewable energy especially solar to power businesses.

Adeosun said that Critical Success Factor (CSF) in anything business included strategic insight, clear communication and compelling Emotional Intelligence.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Alfa Designs set to begin conversion of diesel vehicles to CNG

Alfa Designs set to begin conversion of diesel vehicles to CNG

By Dorcas Jonah

Abuja, March 31, 2025 (NAN) Alfa Designs Nigeria, a leading oil and gas company, is set to begin conversion of diesel engine vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

Research Engineer for Alfa Designs, Mubarak Abdul, made this public in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

Abdul said that the company remained committed to ensuring a cleaner and greener future for Nigeria.

” When you put on your diesel generators or start your diesel trucks, you can see how thick smoke comes out.

”So, we sat down and we checked how we could contribute to the reduction of the soot.

” We came up with what we call the dual fuel engine conversion kit.

”We are partnering with a foreign company to get the dual fuel kit started soon in Nigeria,” he said.

Abdul said that the dual fuel kit would enable the engine, truck or car to use less of diesel and more of gas.

He said these could be either Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or CNG.

The CNG, he said, would replace much of the diesel and there would be a mixture of the CNG and the diesel, resulting in low emission.

Abdul also said there would be absence of soot with this process.

He said his company was committed to the Paris Agreement and the Protocols, adding that Alfa Design had pledged to reduce emissions by 2030.

”The advantage of the dual fuel kit is that it will reduce cost and reduce emission,” he added.

Abdul said Alfa Designs would also introduce a Computed Tomography (CT) machine.

He said CT machine was now being used in industries for advanced inspections.

”Over the years, we heard about the CT machine in the medical line.

”Whenever they want to carry out an advance inspection, the CT machine is used to tell you what you cannot see with your bare eyes

”Our company had brought the CT machine to the country and we aim to support the advanced inspection in industry with this machine,” he said.

Abdul further said that with the machine, oil and gas firms could carry out rock physics analysis and other investigations easily.

”Before you determine that there is oil in a particular place or even after you find oil, you have to carry out ‘well characterisation.’

”This means you have to check the physical properties of the place and the CT machine will help industries to do a lot of the analysis with ease,” he said.

Abdul urged Nigerians to adopt every means to tackle greenhouse gas emissions, saying they could have negative effects on the long run.

He identified some major problems associated with greenhouse gas emissions to include flooding and global warming, urging Nigerians to support the government and its initiatives.(NAN)

Lorenzo Mba, Founder, Waka Community International Foundation, has urged Nigerians to embrace walking to help prevent or manage conditions including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Mba gave the advice on Saturday in Lagos during a walk event with Q-life Family Clinic and Health Emergency Initiative (HEI) to honour Dr Ade Alakija.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late Alakija, who passed in 2022, was the Chairman, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) Board.

The Waka founder added that walking also helped improve cardiovascular fitness.

He said the walk, in its third edition, was held to immortalise Alakija who wore many caps and was a pioneer member of Waka Community International Foundation.

“Today’s walk and free health check for interested participants and the public is driven by our conviction that a healthy Nigeria is a wealthy Nigeria.

“It provides us with the opportunity to inform, educate and persuade Nigerians and indeed the world, to take personal responsibility for their wellness by walking, eating right, hydrating well, getting enough quality sleep.

“And for those above 45, some strength training to maintain muscle mass which is essential for aging healthily,” he said.

Mba also encouraged Nigerians to walk a minimum of 30 minutes daily, eat healthy in small portions, drink lots of water and get adequate sleep to be fitter, leaner, healthier and ultimately happier.

He described walking as the oldest and safest form of physical exercise that was non-discriminatory on grounds of age, gender, level of physical fitness or location.

“We encourage everyone to walk indoors or outdoors depending on choice, safety or convenience.

“Walking is also inexpensive as one can walk bare feet indoors and on beaches,” he said.

Mr Paschal Achunine, Executive Director, Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), said walking was a call to healthy living without strain.

He said HEI would continue to train first responders and enlighten the general public on practical steps to save lives.

“Exercise is an escape route for certain diseases and calling people’s attention to exercise is a noble move that the late Alakija stood for,” he said.

Ola Alakija, younger brother to the late Alakija, said the honorary walk ensured that his legacy and memory was preserved.

He added that exercising was a great form of tribute to him particularly in view of his passion to bring health to the world. (NAN)

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to continue praying for President Bola Tinubu for impactful leadership and good governance.

Wike made the call in his Sallah message in Abuja on Sunday, for the celebration of Eid-el Fitr, which signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

He described the task of building Nigeria and its capital territory as a collective dream — one of peace, prosperity, and unity.

He added that the country needed citizen’s support, faith, and most importantly, continued prayers for divine wisdom and guidance in the task of building Nigeria “and a federal capital that we will all be proud of.

“I commend residents of the FCT for their acts of charity, kindness, and generosity toward one another throughout the holy month.

“Your commitment to supporting the less privileged, fostering community bonds, and spreading love and peace is truly admirable.

“As we celebrate Eid, I urge all residents to continue to embody these noble virtues even beyond Ramadan, as they are essential to building a harmonious and prosperous society,” he said.

The minister, who described FCT as the “centre of unity”, urged residents to uphold and exhibit that unity at all times.

“Let us live in peace, harmony and respecting one another, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, including working together for the common good of all,” he said.

Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration remained steadfast in its commitment to the infrastructural development of the territory, as well as the welfare and security of all residents.

He added that the administration would continue to prioritise policies and initiatives that enhanced the quality of life in the FCT and ensure a safe and conducive environment for all.

“As residents of the nation’s capital, we must all take responsibility for ensuring peace and stability in our communities.

“I call on you to resist any attempt by individuals or groups seeking to create disharmony within our ranks or disrupt the peace we cherish.

“Let us remain united and not allow anyone to sow seeds of division or instigate public disturbance.

“Security is a collective duty, and I encourage everyone to promptly report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities,” Wike said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
