Al-Habibiyah Islamic Society has engaged 118 teenagers on basic principles that would guide them against indulgence in corrupt practices.

The National Chief Imam of the society, Sheikh Fuad Adeyemi, stated this while addressing newsmen at the closing of the 11th Annual Teenagers Workshop, held on Sunday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop lasted for over a 10-day period, where the 118 children were engaged in several activities at the camp, which had as its theme, “Moulding minds for a corrupt free Society”.

He said the society was determined to improve the moral tone of the country by producing children who are God conscious.

Adeyemi said the main problem confronting the country was corruption, adding, ” that is why we expose the children to everything that will take their lives out of corruption.

” Our aims and objectives are to produce children who are God conscious, who are economically empowered, socially conscious and politically active with the fear of God.”

Adeyemi disclosed that Al-Habibiyah, with the support of the MacArthur Foundation and Human Rights Radio spent over N11 million to organise the programme.

” Our strength for this year is just to engage 70 children but we ended up having 118 children.

“So, it means people overrated us, I said we don’t have money they said we know you can do it.

” But to the glory of God, MacArthur Foundation Human Rights Radio supported us to this level and that was why we did the programme almost effortlessly.

“For the 2023 programme, we spent about N11 million because we do not manage anything.

“During selection of participants, we announced in the mosque and on the Social Media and we even have children from the United Kingdom (UK), Sudan,” he said

On the impact of the programme, the cleric said some of the beneficiaries were studying abroad, adding that they were doing excellently well.

Adeyemi added: ” For example, one of our products is the current Chief Imam of Nigerian students in Cyprus. Almost everybody that goes to Cyprus use to meet him.

” His room become the Mosque of the Nigerian Muslim students and he graduated with a First Class. This is to let you know that we combine everything.

” Also, somebody because of the work we have been doing got a scholarship to the United States of America and she was offered a job because those who do volunteerism work with us get a certificate.

” So, she was offered a job because of her experience in volunteerism here with us.”

He called on the participants to be good ambassadors of not just Islam but “everything good wherever they find themselves.”

The cleric appealed to wealthy Muslims to support Al-Habibiyah with cash or in kind to ensure the sustainability of the programme.

Adeyemi said: ” I beg that those that Allah has blessed should come and support us. You don’t need to give us money, we will tell you what we want you to use the money for.

” Just do it and we will be glad if we see it and if we don’t have enough funding we might begin to charge for the programme.

” We spent an average of N125,000 on each child that participated in the programme. Our intention is to at least have a minimum of 250 participants per annum.”

Speaking on her experience, Farhanaah Adeyemi-Fuad, the Amirah of Al habibiyyah’s 11th teenagers workshop, described the programme as very educating.

She said: ” We had different sessions, we were lectured by several Professors, we had speakers from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and NAPTIP.

” They gave us lectures and awareness on several topics and other professionals talked to us about carreer prospects and what you can be.

“Internet doesn’t give you everything, it’s better to have discussions with professionals.” (NAN)

The Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria(ASCSN), says the reduction in the number of days civil servants appear physically at work is not economically beneficial to the country.

Mr Tommy Okon, ASCSN National President said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Okon said that the new development would also affect the productivity of the workfore.

It be would be recall that President Bola Tinubu had on May 29th, announced the removal of fuel subsidy, prompting economic challenges for majority of Nigerians.

This lead to some civil servants cutting down the number of days they appear at work physically.

According to Okon, Nigeria is not ripe for such system, where people can sit at home and work steadily.

“The issues of poor electricity or internet facilities will naturally pose challenges to such working pattern.

“Nigeria is not there yet because we don’t even have the power, no electricity, the internet facilities and the rest of it.

“We are used to physically being present in the workplace, where things are done. That is the culture of work in Nigeria,”he said.

“Also, when you look at the future of work in other developed countries, yes, we can adopt work at home, we can adopt artificial intelligence, we can adopt every other means,”he said.

He added that, but these can not be adopted in the Nigeria context or African extension, because we are trying to come out of the woods because culture and environment are different.

According to him, if you go by developmental issues in labour management relations, when you look at the three E basics which are energy, environment, and the economy.

Okon noted that there’s a tendency that they wouldn’t not be the same and can’t be achieve, when these things are not there.

ASCSN president also said the palliative programme being mulled by the Federal Government in view of the subsidy removal policy to cushion the hardship was ‘over’ delayed.

According to Okon, salaries of civil servants have remained static despite the subsidy crisis that has impacted much on livelihood of Nigerians.

“What is the take home, if you have removed fuel subsidy for three month now and the take home of the federal civil servant remains static, there is nothing coming and nothing going out, it a problem, ”he said.

He also alleged that the 40 per cent peculiar allowance that the union canvassed for and got from the last administration, was now being taxed.

“We have sent a memo to government that allowance should not be taxed, so that tells you that those managing the economy does not understand how things work,” he said.

He however, called on the governments at all level to ensure proper distribution of the palliatives given to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal in the country.

He also urged them to setup implementation committees both at federal and states level with chairmen yo ensure proper accountability for the palliatives distribution.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

“They are all equipped with digital literacy and ICT proficiency, empowered to safely and responsibly use digital platforms; they also master digital marketing to be able to use social media to sell their products and services.

“They are also enlightened on how to be part of gig economy; they learnt skills on how to work remotely and earn money and how to use productivity tools.

“The first lady has agreed that NITDA collaborate with Renewed Hope Initiative to craft a national digital gender inclusion strategy in order for the women to benefit from digital economy as their male counterpart.’’

He said the programme was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for women inclusion and empowerment among others.

“Our mother, the first lady, your unwavering commitment to empowerment and progress has charted the cause for change for all the members of this cohort.

“This is a programme that we hope we can partner with you on to actually scale significantly; I’m a big believer in the fact that we have to empower women because women are empathetic.

“When you have women around you, it is about the good for people and not for egos, this is why the role you are playing in the society with the initiative Ma is very important”.

The Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, says President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and diplomatic alliances are intended to attract investments and partnerships to the country.

Mr Olusola Abiola, Director, Information, Office of the Vice-President, in a statement quoted Shettima as saying this in his address to world leaders at the third BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue on the sidelines of the ongoing 15th BRICS Summit.

The summit is holding at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Shettima spoke to a large audience which includes Presidents of China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Russia’s Foreign Minister on the theme, ‘BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism’.

According to him, the new Nigerian government, which began less than three months ago, is examining the variables and evaluating the scope and level of regional and global cooperation to pursue in order to establish Nigeria as the desired friend and partner.

Shettima said the theme “underscores the profound realisation that the cornerstone of stability within our intricate multipolar landscape lies in fostering developmental partnerships”.

He commended the efforts of the organisers for focusing on the agenda items which centers on “BRICS and Africa”.

The vice president stated that the agenda aligns with “the aspiration of the people we represent, the future citizens of a world that can ensure our collective prosperity”.

He extended Nigeria’s gratitude to the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa for convening the 15th BRICS Summit.

“The BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS-Plus Dialogue provide a unique platform for deliberation, note comparison, and exploration of a mutually beneficial partnership that could evolve into a novel driving force for development.

“The international global governance structure to which we currently adhere was established prior to the independence of the African continent and many countries in the global south.

“So, it’s indeed imperative to reform global governance to align with the realities of today’s world and to acknowledge the necessity for partnerships that ensure shared prosperity, inclusivity and sustainable development.”

Shettima assured that Nigeria, under President Tinubu, was committed to shaping and fortifying the global framework and governance concerning all major international issues.

“These are particularly in the fields of finance, climate change, bridging the digital divide, adopting a comprehensive strategy towards debt alleviation, addressing food and energy insecurities, instituting post-pandemic recovery measures, and fostering financial inclusion within developing countries.”

He stressed the need for a revitalised international cooperation that is effective, representative, and inclusive to tackle the challenges facing the world.

Shettima opined that Nigeria is ready for collaboration and partnership that guarantee a world governed by acceptable rules and norms.

“We seek partnership that provides opportunities for all to engage in trade, prosperity, and shared progress with no marginalisation based on geography, race and legitimate sovereign affiliations,” he affirmed.

On the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), he observed that the reality of achieving the SDGs remains bleak for many developing countries.

“These nations confront historical developmental vulnerabilities and challenges that are beyond their control. Thus, it is imperative for us to unite within regional groups and forge a novel form of international cooperation.

“This endeavor aims to foster global economic governance reform while enhancing the representation and voice of emerging market economies or developing countries.”

Shettima, while emphasising partnership as a major key for addressing current global challenges, seeks formidable global partnerships through harnessing the agricultural potentials of nations.

He also underscored the need for harnessing renewable energy to revolutionise Africa; fostering technology, innovation, and job prospects for holistic and equitable progress; collaborative efforts on climate change and nature-centered approaches to development.

“Others include strengthening vibrant private-sector participation among the countries of the global south; nurturing youth employment and skill building as a deterrent against terrorism, organised crime, related challenges; proactive crisis prevention and heightened resilience as well as promoting proactive involvement of business leadership in shaping an improved and ideal landscape for trade and economic exchanges in the Global South.”

Earlier, in his address on the third day of the Summit, the Chair of BRICS and President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, expressed the commitment of South Africa to advance the interests of the global south.

He announced the admission of six new full members – Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates – as part of the outcomes of the Summit to expand its objectives.

In the delegation of the Vice President to the Summit were Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Amb. Muhammed Manta, the Consul-General, Amb. Andrew Idi, and other senior government officials. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has promised to complete the construction of B6 and B12 roads, linking Constitution Avenue to City Gate, Abuja, in the next seven months.

Wike, who gave the assurance after a tour of some abandoned projects in Abuja on Thursday, added that the renovation of the Federal Secretariat would also be completed within seven to eight months.

The News Agency of Niger (NAN) reports that one of the abandoned projects visited was the Vice President’s residence, awarded since 2010.

Another project visited was the residence of the presiding officers of the National Assembly, close to the National Assembly complex, awarded in 2009.

The minister, in company of the Minister of State for FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, and the Permanent Secretary, FCT Administration, Mr Adesola Olusade, also visited Millennium Tower construction site, at Central Area, Abuja.

The Millennium Tower is a multifunctional edifice with facilities for cultural exposition, tourism, socialisation, recreation, hospitality, and commercial activities.

Wike said that he does not like giving excuses, adding that he would do the best he can to deliver some of the projects, adding that those that the ministry cannot deliver, he would run to President Bola Tinubu for help.

He described the road linking the city gate to constitution avenue as a “very important infrastructure” that would change the landscape of Abuja.

He said that the construction company had promised to deliver the project in the next seven months if funds were made available.

He added that Julius Berger had also promised to deliver the renovation of the Federal Secretariat within seven to eight months.

“I want to assure you that in the next six to seven months the two projects would be completed,” he said.

On the residence of the Vice President and presiding officers of the National Assembly, the minister said that he would report to President Tinubu to agree on a way forward.

He described the Millennium building as a “very interesting facility” that ought to turn Abuja around, and bring tourists and families to have fun.

“We know we are going to face some challenges and we are here to solve problems. If there were no problem, President Tinubu would not have been here.

“He promised Nigerians that he knows their challenges and he will do anything he could to surmount them.

“Before we were sworn in, Mr president had told me and the Minister of State, to do everything we can to bring back some of the structures and facilities that will make Abuja a world class city.

“One of them is the road network and facilities like the Millennium Tower that will bring tourists and families to come around and have fun,” he said.

He acknowledged the challenge of funding, adding that he would sit with the Minister of State for FCT and Permanent Secretary, FCTA, to restructure how some of the projects were being funded.

He also said that another strategy he would employ was to attach funds to a specific project and complete the project instead of allocating N500 million every year to a project of over N150 billion.

“It means that in the next 20 years, you cannot complete the project. So, what is the benefit of wasting public funds? He asked.

“Fund is a challenge, yes, but we are here to solve such a challenge.” the minister said.

NAN reports that other officials in the minister’s entourage were the Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, Mr Shehu Hadi, and other directors and top management officials of the FCTA.  (NAN)

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) said on Wednesday that plans have been concluded to construct Golden Jubilee Estates across the six-geo political zones of the country.

The Managing Director, FHA, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, said this at the unveiling of the logo for the commemoration of the authority’s 50 years anniversary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the celebration is “The Future of Housing in Nigeria, Celebrating 50 Years of FHA and its Impact on the Housing Sector”.

Ashafa said that the groundbreaking of the golden jubilee estate was done recently at the Mbora District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said that the housing project would be realized through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), adding that many companies have lined up to be part of the project.

According to him, the project is going to be a 24 months project, and FHA will soon start inviting interested bidders who will be part of the construction.

“It will be a 20, 000 unit housing estate project that will enable Nigerians to own their own houses through “rent to own approach”.

“The golden jubilee estate as the name implies will be permanent like that of Festac town in Lagos.

“FHA will continue to maintain consistent delivery of quality houses,” he stressed.

Ashafa stated that the purpose of the celebration was to recognise and celebrate those who have been part of the success story of the authority over the years.

He also said that FHA was also celebrating the impact it had made in providing quality and affordable housing to Nigerians.

The authority recently performed a groundbreaking ceremony of 7000 housing units in Mbora District of the FCT, under a PPP arrangement with Nuga Best Regis International. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
