National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended the relocation of service chiefs to Maiduguri, following Monday’s multiple explosions which claimed 22 lives, with no fewer than 100 others sustaining injuries.
In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, the Chairman of NYCN’s Interim Management Committee, Mr Buhari Shehu, lauded the swift response of the Federal Government, saying that it should be sustained to prevent further attacks.
Shehu, who condemned the explosions, extended the council’s condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected by what he described as unfortunate incidents.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Maiduguri during this difficult time. No Nigerian should be subjected to such fear and trauma in his own community.
“While we acknowledge and commend the prompt deployment of security personnel to affected areas, we emphasise that this must be part of a broader and sustained strategy to prevent further attacks.
“The response is commendable, but proactive measures, including strengthened intelligence gathering and community-based security efforts, are equally critical and should be utilised at all times,” he said.
Shehu called on government to intensify efforts and work round the clock to ensure the safety of lives and property.
He said that more decisive and coordinated actions were needed to tackle the evolving security challenges facing the country.
The chairman called on the Nigerian youths to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies as they carry out their duties.
“Collective responsibility and unity are essential in overcoming these challenges.
“NYCN remains committed to promoting peace, stability and national development across Nigeria,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
