The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says the Federal Government is undertaking bold reforms to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and long-term development.

Idris stated this via Zoom from London during the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the 2026 APC National Convention in Abuja.

He described the convention as a significant milestone for the ruling party as it strengthens internal democracy and consolidates its vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

According to him, the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to implementing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the convention would provide another opportunity for members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to demonstrate unity, discipline and commitment to national progress.

The minister said the responsibility given to the committee was strategic in ensuring effective communication of the convention’s activities and outcomes.

“In today’s fast-paced information environment, the success of any major political event depends largely on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said.

Idris said the committee’s work would involve ensuring accurate information dissemination, promoting transparency and coordinating media engagement before and during the convention.

He added that the committee would also project the processes and outcomes of the convention to Nigerians and the international community.

According to him, the subcommittee has been divided into seven groups to effectively manage various media-related responsibilities.

He said their tasks include content creation, media relations and media planning and buying.

Other responsibilities include liaison with other subcommittees on media engagements, documentation and report writing.

The groups will also handle media monitoring, performance evaluation and reporting in print and audio-visual formats.

Idris said the committee would also coordinate administrative and media activities related to the convention.

He urged members to approach the assignment with professionalism, creativity and a strong sense of duty.

“By leveraging available media platforms, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered while upholding credibility and integrity,” he said.

The minister congratulated members of the committee on their appointments.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that former Governor of Yobe, Mai Mala Buni, was appointed chairman of the committee, while Idris serves as co-chairman. (NAN)
