De Norsemen Klub International (DNKI) has approved and instituted a nationwide widows welfare scheme to support families of its deceased members.

The International President of the organisation, Chief Oliver Ityohegh, approved the initiative, which is designed to provide structured assistance and sustained care for widows.

This is contained in a statement by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Darlington Anugom on Friday in Abuja.

According to Anugom, the scheme underscores the organisation’s commitment to social responsibility, unity and humanitarian service.

He said the initiative, developed by the DNKI Welfare Department, would provide both material and financial support to widows, while reinforcing the organisation’s values of brotherhood, compassion and responsibility.

“The scheme reflects DNKI’s resolve to ensure that no widow of a departed member is left without support, dignity and a sense of belonging,” he said.

Anugom explained that the first phase of the programme would focus on immediate relief through the distribution of food items and cash support to beneficiaries across the organisation’s operational zones.

He listed the items to include bags of rice, beans, garri, non-perishable food items and toiletries.

The spokesperson added that the beneficiaries would be drawn from the Northern, South-West, South-East, South-South and Diaspora (African countries) zones.

He said the phase was aimed at cushioning the economic challenges faced by widows amid rising living costs and socio-economic uncertainties.

Anugom further disclosed that the second phase of the scheme would focus on long-term empowerment and sustainability.

He said this would include the award of educational scholarships to children of deceased members, periodic free medical outreaches, as well as continuous welfare monitoring and support programmes.

According to him, the measures are designed to secure the future of beneficiaries, promote education and improve access to healthcare services.

“The DNKI Widows Welfare Scheme stands as a testament to the organisation’s commitment to honouring the legacy of its departed members by supporting the families they left behind,” he said.

He added that the leadership of the organisation had called on members, stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative.

Anugom said that the scheme would further expand DNKI’s humanitarian footprint across Nigeria and beyond. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
