By Chidinma Ewunonu-Aluko

A 53-year-old man, Abiodun Adepoju, on Wednesday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan over an alleged N1.8 million fraud.

Adepoju, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Femi Omilana, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between Dec.27, 2025 and Feb.9, at Orita, Ibadan.

Omilana alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N1.8 million from one Mrs Amina Gbadamosi.

He alleged that the defendant obtained the money under the false pretence of providing the complainant with a two bedroom flat, knowing same to be false.

He alleged that the defendant failed to provide the apartment and rather converted the money to his personal use.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

Adeola, among other rulings, held that two of the sureties must provide evidence of three years tax clearance.

She also held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant and adjourned the case until May 25, for hearing. (NAN)
