The Kaduna State Government says the ongoing 36-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi Road in Birnin Gwari will open access to about 66 farming communities and boost economic activities.

The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Ahmed, said this during an inspection visit to the project site at the weekend.

Baba-Ahmed described Gov. Uba Sani’s rural infrastructure drive as “revolutionary”, noting that the road would improve access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.

He added that the project would surpass the recently commissioned 35-kilometre Gadan Gayan–Gwaraji–Kujama Road, earlier described as the state’s longest in two decades.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Gadan Gayan–Gwaraji–Kujama Road runs through Igabi, Kajuru and Chikun Local Government Areas.

It features a 130-metre bridge across the Kaduna River, improving access for several rural communities.

“Birnin Gwari is one of Nigeria’s leading maize-producing areas, and this road will greatly enhance transportation of farm produce and stimulate economic growth,” Baba-Ahmed said.

He said the project formed part of the state government’s plan to construct about 1,345 kilometres of roads across 20 local government areas.

He added that about 150 infrastructure projects had been initiated under the programme, with 66 already completed.

The Bagoma–Gagumi Road project is being executed by CGC Nigeria Ltd., a firm known for delivering major roads, bridges and water supply projects.

Baba-Ahmed said the road was scheduled for completion by year end but the contractor had assured the government of possible early delivery.

Northern Regional Manager of the company, Wang Hongxi, said additional workers and equipment had been deployed to speed up the project.

“We have mobilised more workers and are working round the clock to ensure the project is delivered on schedule,” Hongxi said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
