Rep. Remi Oseni (APC), representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo State, has advised Nigerians not to see enemies around them, but rather magnify love for peace to thrive in the country.
Oseni gave the advice at a Ramadan lecture organised by Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF), Muslim Wing, in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that “Love” was the theme of the lecture.
The member of the House of Representatives said as Nigerians, the only thing that should unite us and promote peace and harmony in Nigeria is love.
According to him, someone you currently consider your enemy can be useful for you and even be your friend in future.
“In life, if you want to be a leader, you should never identify anyone in your environment as your enemy.
“You should not see anyone as wicked. Those you consider your enemies may have their own time when they will be useful to you.
“Therefore, do not treat them as enemies. Also, do not regard anyone as wicked because, as the scripture says, God created even the wicked for the day of adversity,” Oseni said.
He called on Nigerians to love one another for the country’s progress, peace and harmony.
“Love is something we should all exhibit in our lives. Personally, that is what I am used to as an individual. Love is the only thing that can bind us together and keep us united in life,” he said.
In his lecture, an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Basit Bello (Aponle Anabi), called on Nigerians to always appreciate one another and make love their guiding principle.
The cleric further called on politicians to always put the interest of the masses at heart and enjoined the citizens to love their leaders.
“We must appreciate and promote love. We need to make love a guiding principle in our daily lives.
“Our politicians should show love toward the citizens, and the citizens should also show love toward their leaders,” Bello said.
The cleric attributed lack of love as one of the factors responsible for kidnapping, killing and insecurity in Nigeria.
“Without love, there can be no progress. Without love there can be no unity. Without love there can be no harmony.
“If there is love in our nation today, there will be no reason for anyone to kill another person or engage in kidnapping,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
