The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) and the Risk Managers Society of Nigeria( RIMSON) have agreed to collaborate to tackle risk and misinformation in the country.
The Managing Director of NAN, Malam Ali M. Ali, said this when the National President and Chairman Governing Board of the association visited him on Thursday in Abuja.
Ali said the partnership would enhance public education and promote responsible information dissemination.
He said the agency’s nationwide network would support awareness campaigns on risk management and related issues across sectors.
He said that NAN operated bureaux across the 36 states in Nigeria, supported by zonal and district offices covering all parts of the country.
The managing director said that the agency also maintained foreign bureaux, including in New York, South Africa and Addis Ababa.
He said these international offices provided platforms for projecting Nigerian and African stories to global audiences.
Ali further said that NAN had content-sharing agreements with global media organisations such as the Reuters and Chinese news agency among others, enhancing its international reach.
He said NAN had over 400 reporters across the country, ensuring extensive grassroots coverage and was expanding operations through the reopening of district offices and its recent recruitment of additional staff.
He said the expansion would further strengthen NAN’s capacity to deliver timely and accurate news, and emphasised the agency’s commitment to credible reporting, noting its strict editorial processes and zero record of retractions.
According to him, collaboration with risk managers will further strengthen content integrity in the face of misinformation and emerging tech technologies.
Earlier, the RIMSON president, Dr Abbas Idris, said the partnership would deepen risk awareness nationwide.
Idris said the society aimed to expand risk management practice beyond banking and insurance to all sectors of the economy.
He stressed the need for structured risk management in governance to reduce losses and improve decision-making.
According to him, lack of risk assessment contributes to abandoned projects and avoidable disasters in the country.
Idris proposed collaboration in areas like crisis communication, cybersecurity and operational risk management.
He said joint training, research and knowledge sharing would enhance capacity in managing emerging risks.
The RIMSON president also highlighted the importance of data protection, financial risk management and emergency preparedness.
He urged institutions to adopt proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure operational efficiency.
He announced the association’s forthcoming National Conference which would hold from April 29 to April 30 in Abuja.
Both organisations expressed readiness to formalise the partnership to promote risk awareness and strengthen information management nationwide. (NAN)
