The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has commended the management of Delta State University, Abraka, for allowing students captured under the NELFUND loan scheme to participate in the first semester 2025/2026 examinations.
NELFUND gave the commendation in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by its Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.
Oluwatuyi quoted the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, to have commended the initiative of the institution.
Sawyerr said the university issued an internal memorandum through the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), permitting students whose status on the NELFUND platform shows “Verified” or “Disbursed” to sit for their examinations upon presenting evidence of their status.
He described the directive as a commendable example of institutional collaboration aimed at supporting Nigerian students.
Sawyerr said that the decision reflected a clear understanding of the objective of the NELFUND scheme, which was to ensure that no Nigerian student was denied access to education due to financial constraints.
He said the fund was pleased that institutions were taking practical and student-friendly steps to enable beneficiaries who had successfully completed the application process to continue their academic activities without disruption.
According to him, such actions reinforce the broader goal of the programme to expand access to higher education while promoting fairness and inclusivity across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Sawyerr encouraged other universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to adopt similar supportive measures that prioritise students’ academic progress while the loan processing continues.
He added that NELFUND remained committed to working closely with tertiary institutions across the country to ensure the successful implementation of the student loan programme and to safeguard the educational aspirations of Nigerian students. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
