By Joy Akinsanya

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, in prison over alleged conspiracy, attempted abortion and murder.

Adesanya, whose address was not provided, is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempt to procure abortion and murder.

The Police Counsel, Solomon Babalola, moved a motion exparte, praying the court for an order to remand the defendant in prison.

Babalola asked for the defendant’s remand for 60 days in the first instance at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)

He told the court that the defendant committed the offences between January and March, at Ikereku area, Laderin, in Abeokuta.

He alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to procure abortion for one Victoria Ariyo, a 23- year-old youth corps member serving in Abeokuta.

The prosecutor said that the nurse, allegedly supplied drugs to the deceased in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy.

He added that the drugs allegedly led to the death of Victoria.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 516, 230, 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Also arrested in the case was Olalekan Abass Olalekan, an official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) accused of “impregnating Victoria” and giving her drugs to terminate the pregnancy.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Sam-Obaleye, granted the application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the State DPP.

Sam-Obaleye adjourned the case until May 26, for mention.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
