The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called for deeper strategic cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the United States Army to tackle evolving security challenges.
Shaibu made the call in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the United States Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Lt.-Col. Semira Moore, at the Army Headquarters.
The acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
The COAS commended the US Government for its enduring partnership, saying the Nigerian Army had “benefitted immensely from American military professionalism and institutional expertise.”
He noted that many senior Nigerian officers, including himself, were alumni of US military institutions, describing this as “a testament to the depth of our bilateral military relationship.”
Shaibu said the army sought to leverage US experience in kinetic and non-kinetic operations to enhance operational effectiveness, doctrine development, and strategic and institutional capacity.
“International military partnerships remain critical in complementing Nigeria’s internal security architecture and advancing sustainable peace and stability,” he said.
Earlier, Moore praised the cordial relationship between both armies, reaffirming her commitment to strengthening ties and exploring new areas of collaboration.
She said the United States would continue supporting the Nigerian Army in capacity building, intelligence sharing, joint planning, and non-kinetic efforts, including humanitarian assistance and troop welfare. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
