Ward Delineation: Urhobo communities urge INEC to implement Supreme Court order

Abuja, Feb. 5, 2026 (NAN) Members of the Agbarha Warri Kingdom and Okere Urhobo Kingdom have called for the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court order on ward delineation for Warri Federal Constituency, Delta

The members of the kingdoms made the call during a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja.

They called on the commission to immediately release and implement its final report on the wards and Polling Units (PUs) delineation for the federal constituency.

Leader of the Warri Urhobo delegation, Chief Adehor Westham, speaking on behalf of the protesters said they were at INEC to demand the release of the delineation report.

Adehor expressed the people’s frustration over the delay in INEC to implement its reports on the court order delineation.

He recalled that INEC had presented a preliminary report in April 2025 in Asaba—allocating new wards across the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo areas, but the final report remains pending.

“After the preliminary report, they said there was a little problem and the matter was taken to the National Security Adviser (NSA). Officials from the Office of the Attorney-General also visited our communities,” he said.

He said that the delay by INEC to implement its report was now raising concerns in the constituency, particularly regarding the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for Feb. 18.

“Which ward are they going to use? Is it the wards the Supreme Court has nullified? Are they trying to disenfranchise us?

”If they do not announce it before the congress, we may go to court because you cannot disobey the highest court in the land,” he said.

Also speaking, Chief Louis Okumagba also said that INEC had already concluded its fieldwork, including physical visits to all Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo communities.

Okumagba urged INEC to act decisively on its findings in obedience to Supreme Court judgment, saying there was nothing to fear.

Addressing the protesters, INEC National Commissioner, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, pledged to deliver their petition to the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan.

Zuru said that the commission was already consulting with the Office of NSA over the matter.

“Thank you most sincerely for the peaceful approach you have adopted on this issue.

“On behalf of the commission, let me assure you that this is on the top of the agenda of the commission.

“In fact, the chairman is already talking with the Office of the National Security Adviser to ensure that these matters are resolved,” Zuru said.

He assured that protesters that INEC was committed to ensuring that every eligible community fully participates in the next round of elections and assured that a position would soon be taken on the matter.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards displayed by the protesters were “INEC release the true report,” “Urhobos of Warri are majority in Warri South LGA,” and “INEC must obey the law” .(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
