The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) says Nigeria remains committed to the sustainable development ideals of the Total Official Support for Sustainable Development (TOSSD) through Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme.
The Director-General of NTAC, Dr Yusuf Yakub, said this in statement signed by Nkem Anyata-Lafia, Special Assistant to the NTAC D-G, on Media and Publicity in Abuja on Wednesday.
Yusuf said this at the ongoing General Assembly Meeting (GAM) of the Development Cooperation Multilateral Agency in Spain.
He confirmed the full membership status of Nigeria and highlighted the importance of the country’s full membership of the body as provider of sustainable development goals across the world.
According to him, the status has been existing since the past 38 years through which it has availed the expert services of professional Nigerians to promote South-South Co-operation.
“Nigeria’s current full status and contributions to TOSSD, the nation has fully put behind itself its observer status in the 28-member-State body whose full membership include: France, Greece, Norway as well as Qatar, the EU countries and the Organisation of American States, among others.
“It will be recalled that for many years until the coming of the current administration, Nigeria had continued to maintain an observer status in TOSSD.
“This was in spite of the country’s major efforts as provider of the TAC volunteers services to African, Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) countries, which has long qualified her for a full membership status,” he said.
This year’s GAM was facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain and has in attendance all the EU Member States and other eight independent observers.
The delegation led by the NTAC D-G included the Director of Administration, Amb.Yakubu Ahmed and Amb.Zakari Usman, Director of Programmes. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
