The Alumni Association of the National Defence College (AANDEC) distributed palliatives to about 125 widows of fallen military heroes in Abuja on Sunday.
The exercise was organised by AANDEC in partnership with Ufuk Dialogue, Near Foundation and other development partners.
Speaking at the ceremony, AANDEC President, Rear Adm. Ndidi Agholor (rtd), described the gesture as compassion and solidarity with families who paid the supreme price.
He commended Ufuk Dialogue and partners for their “consistent milk of human kindness” toward widows and vulnerable families.
Agholor said the organisations continued supporting beneficiaries even without personal connections, describing the commitment as deeply reassuring.
He urged beneficiaries to focus on the spirit behind the donations, rather than their quantity or material value.
“What truly matters is the sense of compassion with which these items were donated.
“When something is given from the heart, even the smallest gift carries great value,” Agholor said.
He reaffirmed AANDEC’s commitment to widows of fallen officers, praying for unity, peace and prosperity in 2026.
Ufuk Dialogue’s Programme, Arts and Media Coordinator, Mr Anas Abubakar, said the organisation promoted friendship, love and tolerance through humanitarian outreach.
Representing Ufuk Dialogue President, Mr Emrah Elgin, Abubakar said the initiative reflected the organisation’s vision of sharing resources with widows.
“Our slogan reminds us that what we reserve in our hearts should be a seed for everyone,” he said.
One beneficiary, Mrs Olubumi Ese-Okiti, thanked the organisers for remembering widows of fallen officers during the remembrance period.
“This support means a lot to us. We are truly happy and thankful today,” Ese-Okiti said.
The event featured distribution of household items and palliatives, amid prayers, goodwill and expressions of gratitude from beneficiaries. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
