A group art exhibition featuring works by 13 renowned artists tagged “A Promise of Memories” has opened at the Tim and Carol Gallery of Art in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the artists whose works are being showcased include Moses Oghagbon, Sam Ovraiti, Kunle Adeyemi, Bolaji Ogunwo, Ojo Olaniyi, Adeola Balogun, and Djakou Nathalie.
Others are Abiodun Badejo, Ayoola Omovo, Bb Babatunde, Saheed Adelakun, Luke Osaro, and Greg Onyeka.
Olawale Fasuyi, the Chief Executive Officer of Tim and Carol Gallery of Art, on Monday, said that “A Promise of Memories” was not merely an exhibition but a meditation on time, heritage, and human continuity.
“It asks what we remember, what we choose to preserve, and how art, in its timeless promise, ensures that our stories are never forgotten.
“Memory is both a vessel and a mirror—an ever-shifting landscape where emotion, culture, and time converge,” he said.
Fasuyi said that the 13 artists bring together an extraordinary array of media and techniques; from painting and sculpture to ceramics, printmaking, and mixed media.
“Each artist contributes a unique visual language that speaks to memory’s enduring promise: to recall, to renew, and to reimagine.
“In their hands, texture, colour, and form become conduits for storytelling—chromatic expressions of the past that illuminate the present.
“They are inviting audiences to engage with the fragments, sensations, and symbols that define our shared human experience,” he said.
He added that the exhibition embodies the gallery’s ongoing dedication to showcasing and preserving the narratives that shape our collective identity.
He said: “Since its inception in 2022, the gallery has become a dynamic space for dialogue, creativity, and cultural preservation.
“Through ‘A Promise of Memories’, it continues this mission by curating an immersive encounter with nostalgia—both personal and communal—and the evolving consciousness of our socio-cultural landscape.”
Moses Ohiomokhare, a Curator and Art Consultant, said that the exhibition forms a vast emotional and cultural tapestry.
“Each artist reaches into the depths of personal and communal experience to retrieve something lasting — a rhythm, a form, a story.
“Their works affirm that memory is not an anchor, but a current; it carries us forward even as it draws from the depths of the past,” Ohiomokhare said.
Speaking with NAN, one of the featured artists, Oghagbon, said that “A Promise of Memories” was a personal journey born out of his ongoing “Tour Nigeria” project.
According to Oghagbon, who is a professional studio artist and a freelance tourism photographer, the project is a visual chronicle and cultural homage to the rich heritage of the Argungu Emirate in Kebbi.
“Through photography, textures, colours, and forms, I translate my emotional connection to this land and its people into a language that can be felt as much as it is seen.
“Each piece is a fragment of memory, a reflection of tradition, and a promise to preserve the stories that might otherwise fade.
“This project is more than documentation; it is representation—of identity, of resilience, and of beauty,” Oghagbon said.
Also, Nathalie, a Cameroonian visual artist, ceramist, and sculptor, said that art mirrors the enigmatic vastness of the universe, offering infinite possibilities that imbue lives with profound meaning and vitality.
