Silver Lake Television (SLTV), Nigeria’s indigenous pay-TV, has received high ratings from some subscribers and viewers resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
SLTV is a home satellite TV platform operated by Metrodigital Limited, launched with backing from the Federal Government.
The viewers, who spoke in interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, commended SLTV for its affordable subscription packages and diverse contents.
They disclosed that the services were also reliable, noting that the pay-TV platform had distinguished itself from competitors.
Tijani Ibitomi, a civil servant, said SLTV had made quality entertainment accessible to middle-income earners.
“With SLTV, when I am at home on weekends, I don’t have to worry about missing local news or Nollywood time.
“The subscription is pocket-friendly compared to other pay-TV services. However, I would like them to add more sports channels, especially for European football,” he said.
Another viewer, Mrs Chinyere Edwin, a secondary school teacher, commended SLTV’s educational content.
She said her children enjoyed the documentary and learning channels.
According to her, it’s refreshing to see a pay-TV service that invests in knowledge-based programming.
“Still, I think they can improve the picture quality on some channels,” she noted.
In a city where inflation has made every Naira count twice, price is the first thing some subscribers bring up.
“DSTV increased price again and I was just looking at my decoder like, is this thing made of gold?” laughed Obinna Emeka, another civil servant.
“My neighbour was the one that told me about SLTV N2,500 basic. I moved o! Simple,” he said.
Similarly, on customer service, Bello Abdullahi, a businessman, said that SLTV’s customer service had been impressive.
“Whenever I have issues with my decoder, their support team responds quickly. That’s something I didn’t enjoy with other providers,” he said.
A fashion designer, Grace Adejo, stressed the entertainment value.
“I love the variety of music and lifestyle channels. They keep me inspired while working. They are giving us value for money; only electricity is our problem and fuel is expensive to keep business running,” she said.
Adeyemi John, an IT consultant, highlighted SLTV’s innovation.
He said: “The platform is constantly updating its offerings, and I appreciate the effort to stay relevant.
“Their mobile app makes it easy to stream on the go. But I think they should work on reducing downtime during heavy rains,” John added.
Sports lovers also noted that SLTV carried 10 dedicated sports channels broadcasting live football from the Premier League.
They mentioned Champions League, La Liga, Series A, Europa League and more, a significant pull for football-crazy fans.
“If I’m getting EPL and Champions League at the price SLTV offers, DSTV can keep its fancy logo,” Omini Victor, a barber said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
