ADC promises 50% inclusion for youth, women

By Adeyemi Adeleye

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it will prioritise youth and women by allocating 50 per cent of elective and appointive positions to them.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the party, stated this in Lagos during the affirmation of PDP, Labour Party and other members who defected to ADC.

Delivering a speech titled “When Good People Unite, Nigerians Win,”Aregbesola, a former Osun governor and Minister of Interior, called ADC the party of the youth and one committed to rescuing Nigeria.

He said the ADC constitution guarantees strong representation for youth and women, adding that inclusive leadership is key to Nigeria’s future.

According to him, the country is facing hardship and uncertainty, and Nigerians must rise above partisanship to chart a new course.

He said the people must remain the focus of politics and governance for any administration to remain relevant.

“No government could survive without prioritising citizens’ welfare,” he said, adding that leadership must meet the basic needs of the people.

“This is not tokenism, but recognition that Nigeria’s future lies with giving voice, space, and power to the underrepresented,” he said.

He stated that ADC reserves 35 per cent for women and another 35 per cent for youth, creating a minimum of 50 per cent inclusive representation.

According to him, ADC is not controlled by one person, but a collective of patriotic citizens seeking to rebuild the nation.

“The people are the centre of politics and government, not leaders or political parties,” he added.

Aregbesola warned that any form of government that fails to serve the people would lose legitimacy and collapse with time.

“There is a limit to how much hardship people can endure before they react,” he stated.

He said Nigeria’s condition necessitates ADC’s timely intervention, urging members to act decisively to save the country.

He told the new members that ADC’s mission is to build a nation future generations would be proud to inherit.

“Our mission is urgent. ADC will build from the grassroots and avoid needless conflicts,” he said.

He urged members to focus on expanding the party’s base and avoid wasting time engaging political opponents.

“Let’s sell our ideas to the people and ignore the distractions of dying political structures,” he said.

He noted that both PDP and APC have lost vision and reduced to ordinary power-seeking political platforms.

“We must not repeat the mistakes of APC and PDP. Let us build a people-oriented party from scratch,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Abimbola Ogunkelu, PDP BoT member, led the group of defectors and said the movement signalled a new era of progressive politics.

“Our gathering is not just political. It is a convergence of shared values and ideas for national transformation,” he said.

He described the event as a declaration of unity, purpose, and the will to reshape Nigeria through credible alternatives.

Ogunkelu said the coalition aimed to mobilise grassroots participation and provide trustworthy leadership Nigerians can believe in.

Also speaking, Dr Segun Osho, who led some Labour Party members, said their movement was necessary to rescue Nigeria.

“We are pledging our loyalty to ADC to rescue Lagos and Nigeria from failure,” Osho said.

ADC Chieftain, Sen. Kolawole Ogunwale, called on members to work with unity and commitment for the party’s success.

“Don’t just support ADC by mouth. Be committed in action and purpose,” Ogunwale said.

NAN reports that the defectors included former Lagos PDP Chairmen, Chief Muritala Ashorobi, and Captain Tunji Shelle. Others were PDP Vice Chairman (Lagos Central), Tai Benedict; Chief Niyi Adams; and ex-Youth Leader, among other party stalwarts.

ADC Lagos Chairman, Mr George Ashiru, presented the party’s flag, logo, and statement of purpose to Ogunkelu.

Ashiru outlined ADC as a credible alternative and urged members to unite like a military force preparing for victory.

The event was attended by ADC national leaders and South-West state chairmen. (NAN)

TMSG slams ADC over false refinery sale claims

TMSG slams ADC over false refinery sale claims

By Martha Agas

The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG), a think-tank, has described as false claims that the Federal Government was planning to sale its existing refineries.

The group criticised the narrative being promoted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) media office.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa, and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo, the group maintained that the claims were also misleading.

They expressed concern that the information could be intended to sway unsuspecting Nigerians.

According to the group, the ADC is employing half-truths and misleading narratives as a strategy to discredit President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

They noted that the ADC quoted Bashir Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), out of context during his recent interview on the sidelines of the Ninth OPEC International Seminar in Vienna, Austria.

“For the avoidance of doubt, what NNPCL’s Bashir Ojulari said recently on the sidelines of the ninth OPEC international seminar in Vienna, Austria ‎was that NNPCL is now ‘conducting a comprehensive review of its refinery rehabilitation strategy.

“ The conclusions from the exercise could prompt a change in approach,” the group said .

They stated that the NNPCL’s boss response was simply ‘a sale remains a possibility’ so there was no definitive answer to warrant ADC jumping into conclusion of selling the refineries.

“What the NNPCL helmsman said was clear, that the new management, which most Nigerians agree is filled with industry experts, are carrying out a review of refinery rehabilitation strategy.

“After what could be said to be an unsatisfactory revamp of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.

“He was not even certain of what the management would do after the review, when he added that all ‘options were on the table’ until after the process,” it stated.

The group also cited assertions by the ADC spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, that the Tinubu administration had concluded plans to sell the refineries after his administration spent 2.8 billion US dollars on them before declaring them moribund.

They described the claim as false, noting that the approvals for the refineries overhaul were granted in March and August 2021, about two years before President Tinubu assumed office.

‎”Besides, it is a matter of public record that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been digging into the issue and had only recently quizzed some former NNPCL management staff on funds appropriated for refinery rehabilitation.

‎”While we are not averse to a full audit of funds spent on rehabilitation of the refineries since the Olusegun Obasanjo era if possible.

“We believe that opposition elements, especially those who had been in government, should embrace sincerity if they want Nigerians to see them in a different light,” it stated.

‎The group urged Nigerians to be wary of attempts by opposition figures to spread half-truths under the guise of holding the government to account.(NAN)(www.nannes.ng)

Presidency slams ADC over criticism of Buhari’s state burial

Presidency slams ADC over criticism of Buhari’s state burial

By Muhyideen Jimoh

The Presidency has rebuked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its criticism of the state burial accorded former President Muhammadu Buhari.

‎In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, described ADC’s criticism as “opportunistic, dishonest and politically desperate.”

‎“The latest outburst from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding former President Buhari’s state burial is nothing but an opportunistic exercise in manufactured outrage.

‎“It’s a laughable tantrum by a poorly amalgamated political contraption desperately clutching at straws for relevance it will never attain.

‎“This is not the first time the ADC, in its pitiful, stuttering attempts at reinvention, has embarrassed itself with hollow, attention-seeking criticisms and press releases,” Dare said.

‎The ADC had accused the Tinubu administration of politicising Buhari’s death, a claim the presidency strongly rejected.

‎It argued that the ADC, not the government, was the one seeking political mileage from Buhari’s passing.

‎“Let it be said clearly: the ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government.

“They have chosen to dance on his grave for relevance.

‎“From Atiku and El-Rufai’s choreographed arrival in Daura, greeted with chants seeking to make political capital from the solemnity of the moment, to this disgraceful press statement, the ADC has shown itself to be utterly shameless.

‎“For clarity, President Tinubu’s administration is neither desperate nor searching for cheap popularity,” Dare said.

He emphasised that Buhari’s burial was dignified, honourable, and drew both national and global attention.

‎“World leaders showed up, millions tuned in, and even ADC promoters pranced around Daura like eager real estate agents,” Dare added.

‎He also highlighted key achievements under President Tinubu, including economic recovery and infrastructure development.

‎Major milestones listed included stabilised currency, increased oil output, and revitalised state finances through improved FAAC allocations.

‎The rollout of the student loan scheme was also cited as a sign of reform-focused governance.

He added: ‎“These are not press statements. These are results. Tangible, measurable, and ongoing.

“That is leadership. What does the ADC offer Nigerians beyond sanctimonious whining?”

‎He questioned the ADC’s relevance, describing it as a party riddled with internal crises and legal confusion.

‎Dare reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, refusing to dignify what he called “political scavengers.”

‎He urged Nigerians to ignore what he called the noise from a party “gasping for attention.” (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
