‎Peace fully restored in Rivers — Fubara

By Muhyideen Jimoh

‎Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers says peace has fully returned to the state, pledging that his administration will work with stakeholders to sustain it in the interest of the people.

‎Fubara stated this in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after a thank-you visit to President Bola Tinubu on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

‎”As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together, ” he said.

‎The governor described the visit to the President as necessary, following his resumption of duties after six months of emergency rule in the state.

‎”You’re aware that the suspension was lifted midnight Sept.17, and I came in on the 19th.

‎”Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the Governor of Rivers State.”

‎He said the visit was also an opportunity to seek guidance from the President and avoid any future political crises in the state.

‎”It’s not much. It’s father-son discussion, telling him thank you, and the areas where, if at all, there should be any issue for him to guide me properly so that we don’t be in any situation of crisis.”

‎Fubara declared an end to the political feud with his predecessor, now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.(NAN)

Fubara returns as emergency rule lifted ‎

‎President Bola Tinubu has lifted the State of Emergency in Rivers State, and directed that Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and members of the State House of Assembly to resume duties on Thursday.

‎In a statement released Wednesday in Abuja, the President said the decision followed the restoration of peace and order in the state.

‎“It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers shall end with effect from midnight today.”

‎”The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the deputy governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will resume work in their offices from Sept. 18.”

‎The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the emergency rule  was imposed on March 18 amid political tensions and a breakdown in governance.

‎With calm restored, Tinubu emphasised the importance of returning to democratic governance and institutional stability in Rivers.

‎The sole administrator appointed by Tinubu, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas who has led the state since March, had prepared his exit with an interdenominational thanksgiving service held on Sunday in Port Harcourt.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
