By Sumaila Ogbaje

The Chairman, Military Pensions Board (MPB), AVM Abubakar Adamu, has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu and the board to inclusive leadership and improved welfare for retired service personnel.

Adamu gave the assurance on Thursday, at an interactive session with the military veterans in Abuja.

He commended the Federal Government  for prioritizing the welfare of pensioners, especially through prompt pension payments and release of salary increments.

The chairman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with veterans, describing it as “an honour to host those who laid the foundation for today’s Armed Forces.”

He emphasised that his leadership style would be collaborative and transparent, with an open-door policy to engage with all veteran associations across the federation.

He noted that the session marked his first full month in office.

“I believe no one has a monopoly of knowledge. With your advice, support, and cooperation, we can move the Board to a greater height.

“We are here because of you. Without veterans, there is no Board,” he said.

Adamu acknowledged ongoing challenges and urged veterans to voice their concerns freely, assuring attendees that concerns beyond the board’s purview would be escalated to the appropriate authorities.

He also praised the support of the Minister of Defence, noting his responsiveness to veteran-related matters.

In his comment, retired Air Commodore Isaac Oguntuyi, Chairman, Ministry of Defence Veteran Welfare Committee, lauded the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind in over three years.

Oguntuyi called for frank discussions and unity among veterans, particularly in light of the upcoming Veterans Federation of Nigeria (VFN) meeting.

“This is our chance to set the agenda, not just for the Board but for ourselves as veteran associations,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the session included participation from key veteran groups and board directors.

Several complaints, submissions and suggestions were made during the interaction, where the chairman promised to look into, with a view to addressing them. (NAN)

CAC reviews service fees Aug. 1, for efficient services

By Lucy Ogalue

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) says it has reviewed some of its service fees to enhance service quality, improve efficiency, and sustain digital transformation in its operations.

The commission said this in a public notice it issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

It said the increment which will take effect from Aug. 1, reflected prevailing economic realities and rising operational costs.

It said the adjustment followed engagements with key stakeholders.

The commission added that the review was to sustain prompt and technology-driven service delivery for Nigerians.

“The review of fees is crucial to ensuring that the commission continues to provide prompt, efficient, and technology-driven services that meet the expectations of its stakeholders for the benefit of the Nigerian economy,” it said.

The CAC described the reviewed fees as modest and competitive.

It said the changes would support its ongoing reforms to enhance transparency, accountability, and customer satisfaction.

“The schedule of the revised fees has been published on the commission’s official website: www.cac.gov.ng, including a direct link to its resource section for easy access,” the notice said.

The commission assured the public of its continued commitment to delivering high-quality services and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s corporate registry.

FCT-IRS to set up service kiosks in plazas, markets

FCT-IRS to set up service kiosks in plazas, markets

By Nana Musa

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has concluded plans to establish service kiosks in plazas and markets in Federal Capital City and the six area councils.

Mr Michael Ango, acting Executive Chairman, FCT-IRS, disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday, during the service’s annual sensitisation campaign to mobilise FCT residents for voluntary tax compliance.

Ango explained that the move was to bring services closer to the people and promote voluntary tax compliance.

“Apart from sensitisation to promote voluntary tax compliance, very soon you are going to see us setting up kiosk offices in the plazas and the markets, both within the city centre and in the area councils.

“The whole idea is that we need to reach out to taxpayers wherever they are,” he said.

He noted that one of the complaints of taxpayers was that they were not seeing what their taxes were being used for.

He, however, pointed out that that was not the case in FCT.

“I believe that wherever you stay in the FCT, you will see at least some presence of the FCT Administration within your area.

“This could be roads, streetlights or one form of construction or the other and a lot of work is still being done,” he said.

Ango added that the FCT-IRS has 16 tax offices spread out across the city, adding that the service would be expanding into some of the areas without offices.

He also said that the service was going to partner with the market associations, the informal sector and the area councils to boost IGR collection in the FCT.

He appealed for the support of the public on voluntary compliance, saying, “Abuja is a city that needs revenue for development”. (NAN)

FCT-IRS partners NFIU to enhance tax compliance, revenue generation

FCT-IRS partners NFIU to enhance tax compliance, revenue generation

By Philip Yatai

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), has solicited a robust partnership with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), to enhance tax compliance and boost revenue collection in the FCT.

The acting Executive Chairman of the service, Mr Michael Ango sought the partnership when he visited the Chief Executive Officer of NFIU, Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ango described NFIU as one of the strategic stakeholders of FCT-IRS and stressed the need to strengthen existing collaboration for mutual benefits of the two organisations.

He explained that the visit was part of the service’s engagement with key stakeholders to solicit for support and cooperation.

The goal, according to him, is to enhance revenue collection and tax administration in the FCT.

The acting chairman, who acknowledged the existing partnership between the two organisations, said that the move was to strengthen the partnership for better results and progress of FCT.

“Coming together to share ideas, data and information between FCT-IRS and NFIU will help in no small measure, in facilitating improved operations for better results,” Ango said.

Responding, NFIU boss expressed confidence in Ango’s capacity to take FCT-IRS to greater heights and entrenched efficiency, effectiveness and integrity in revenue generation.

Abubakar said that NFIU was willing to tap from the experience and knowledge of the FCT-IRS boss in law, taxation and other areas of expertise to further enhance their operations.

She explained that NFIU recognises tax crimes, particularly tax evasion as a serious offence, adding that it denies the government the resources it needs to invest in infrastructure and other development projects.

“I am pleased that the FCT-IRS is one of our first and indeed our most effective partners in this regard.

“The relationship we established with your office serves as a groundbreaking model and we are now working with about 24 other state revenue services.

“We believe our efforts are making a significant contribution to domestic revenue mobilisation across the federation” she said. (NAN)
