Tinubu’s Brazil visit strategic for economy diversification — Presidency

‎By Muhyideen Jimoh

‎The Presidency has said that President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil is “strategic”, and a broader ambition to diversify and strengthen Nigeria’s economy through global partnerships.

It emphasised, that the visit is a potential game changer aimed at deepening ties with Latin America’s largest economy and a major BRICS member.

‎Mr Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Brasilia.

‎The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Tinubu is expected to arrive in Brazil on Monday for a two-day state visit at the invitation of President Lula da Silva.

Dare said that the visit has the potentials to accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth through targeted engagements in key sectors of the Nigerian economy.

‎”Yes, this is the third visit of President Tinubu to Brazil, and it is with a justifiable cause.

‎“It reflects a renewed and focused effort to build lasting economic integration between our countries.

“This is a journey that started 21 years ago under President Olusegun Obasanjo and has gained fresh momentum under President Tinubu,” he said

‎Dare noted that both countries shared similarities in demography, economy, and cultural affinity that make the visit timely and important.

‎He highlighted Brazil’s global leadership in mechanized agriculture, agribusiness, and renewable energy as key areas of interest for Nigeria.

‎“Brazil has a cattle herd of 238 million, even more than its human population.

‎“This success in agribusiness offers valuable lessons for us as we expand our livestock industry,” he said.

Dare noted that while previous visits centered around international summits like G20 and BRICS, the latest “marks a shift towards concrete bilateral agreements”.

‎“This third visit is a state visit, and it moves Nigeria from being a dialogue partner to actively cutting the necessary deals that will open up investments and strengthen cooperation.

‎“This visit is critical to opening the economic chapter of our relationship with Brazil.

‎“It’s about transforming historic and cultural ties into practical, mutually beneficial investments that will boost Nigeria’s growth and global standing,” he stressed

‎Dare added that the visit will strengthen cooperation in aviation, livestock, trade, and other strategic sectors.

‎NAN reports that this visit marks the second leg of President Tinubu’s two-nation tour, which began with his participation in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Japan.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Presidency defends economic policies, urges fact-based criticism

Presidency defends economic policies, urges fact-based criticism

By Muhyideen Jimoh

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to economic stability and food security through strategic policies led by President Bola Tinubu.

The government assured citizens that these initiatives are already producing results, with a clear focus on improving ordinary Nigerians’ welfare.

Mr Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, stated this in a release titled: ‘Critique Requires Fact-Driven Narrative’.

He described the Daily Trust editorial as exaggerated and unbalanced in its portrayal of Nigeria’s food security and economic condition.

Dare acknowledged economic hardship but cautioned against sweeping generalisations that misrepresent the national situation.

“A recent Daily Trust editorial paints Nigeria as overwhelmed by hunger, hardship, and helplessness—an exaggerated and unbalanced picture.

“The Tinubu administration welcomes media criticism, but it must be based on facts—not distortion or selective pessimism.

“No one in the administration denies that citizens face challenges, but we must distinguish honest concern from pessimism and blanket generalisations,” Dare said.

He argued that the government’s policies are designed to ensure future stability and prosperity for Nigerians.

Dare warned that alarmist narratives and selective reporting undermine public understanding and national progress.

He referenced the editorial’s claim that 33 million Nigerians, including 16 million children, would face hunger in 2025.

“This figure, widely cited, has been wrongly interpreted.

“It was not a UNICEF-specific report but a Cadre Harmonisé analysis co-produced by Nigerian authorities, FAO, WFP, and UNICEF.

“It projects a worst-case hunger scenario for June–August 2025, assuming no mitigation by government or partners,” he said.

Dare highlighted proactive measures already taken to avoid such outcomes and secure food supply.

He listed key interventions: 42,000 metric tons of grain released from reserves; 117,000 more under procurement; and activation of the Food Security Council.

He added that emergency nutrition support was scaled up in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, and Bauchi states.

“President Tinubu is not indifferent to the people’s suffering. He is making deliberate, effective efforts to reset the economy,” he said.

Dare said the administration aims to correct a past of consumption without productivity and policies that favoured the powerful.

The Presidency also called for unity and a national conversation grounded in facts.

“Let’s speak the truth. Yes, Nigerians are tightening belts — but Nigeria is healing,” Dare said.

He pointed to signs of recovery: a stabilising naira, social protection expansion, food system investments, and tuition aid for students.

According to him, the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme will target all 8,809 political wards with tailored support for businesses, infrastructure, and food security.

This is part of President Tinubu’s broader goal to build a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

“The government does not demand silence during hardship. It calls for fairness and shared commitment to rebuilding Nigeria,” Dare said.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting efforts to create a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous economy. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Presidency refutes Kwankwaso’s claim of northern neglect

‎By Muhyideen Jimoh

The Presidency has dismissed Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso’s claim that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is neglecting Northern Nigeria in terms of infrastructural development.

‎Mr Sunday Dare, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to the President, said this via his official X handle on Friday.

‎The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Kwankwaso, the 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, had alleged that the Tinubu administration is favouring the South in terms of projects while ignoring the North.

‎Dare dismissed the claim, citing numerous ongoing projects and development programmes across the region.

‎“The claim that Northern Nigeria has been left behind is incorrect.

‎”The Tinubu administration has initiated and continued several landmark projects in the North, covering roads, agriculture, healthcare, and energy,” Dare said.

‎He referenced key infrastructure projects such as the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway and the Sokoto–Zamfara–Katsina Road.

‎Dare also highlighted the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway as a major federal investment enhancing northern connectivity.

‎On agriculture, he cited the 158.15 million dollars Agriculture Value Chain Programme, currently underway in nine northern states.

‎He mentioned the Kolmani Integrated Development Project in Bauchi and Gombe, and the World Bank-funded ACReSAL programme.

‎ACReSAL is targeting restoration of over one million hectares of degraded land in semi-arid northern areas.

‎Dare pointed out health sector investments, including upgrades at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital and over 1,000 primary health centres.

‎Other beneficiaries included the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina and the University of Jos Teaching Hospital.

‎In the transport sector, he listed the Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Maradi rail lines, and Abuja’s light rail rehabilitation, among others.

‎He also cited energy projects like the ABIBA 50MW Solar Power Station in Kaduna, designed to boost electricity access.

‎Dare listed key roads, including the Zaria–Funtua–Gusau–Sokoto Dual Carriageway and the Kaduna–Jos Single Carriageway.

‎Others include: Kano–Kongolam Road, Yakasai–Zalli Road, and the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway.

‎He also mentioned: Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Dual Carriageway, Biu–Kangiwa–Kamba–Gaya–Niger Republic Road, and the Gamboru Bridge repair.

‎Others are the expansion of the Mararaba–Keffi Road, Lafia Bypass construction, and the Kano–Maiduguri Dual Carriageway.

‎Dare said that in just two years, Tinubu’s administration has laid a foundation for long-term development in the northern region, contrary to Kwankwaso’s claims of neglect. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Presidency slams ADC over criticism of Buhari’s state burial

Presidency slams ADC over criticism of Buhari’s state burial

By Muhyideen Jimoh

The Presidency has rebuked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its criticism of the state burial accorded former President Muhammadu Buhari.

‎In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, described ADC’s criticism as “opportunistic, dishonest and politically desperate.”

‎“The latest outburst from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding former President Buhari’s state burial is nothing but an opportunistic exercise in manufactured outrage.

‎“It’s a laughable tantrum by a poorly amalgamated political contraption desperately clutching at straws for relevance it will never attain.

‎“This is not the first time the ADC, in its pitiful, stuttering attempts at reinvention, has embarrassed itself with hollow, attention-seeking criticisms and press releases,” Dare said.

‎The ADC had accused the Tinubu administration of politicising Buhari’s death, a claim the presidency strongly rejected.

‎It argued that the ADC, not the government, was the one seeking political mileage from Buhari’s passing.

‎“Let it be said clearly: the ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government.

“They have chosen to dance on his grave for relevance.

‎“From Atiku and El-Rufai’s choreographed arrival in Daura, greeted with chants seeking to make political capital from the solemnity of the moment, to this disgraceful press statement, the ADC has shown itself to be utterly shameless.

‎“For clarity, President Tinubu’s administration is neither desperate nor searching for cheap popularity,” Dare said.

He emphasised that Buhari’s burial was dignified, honourable, and drew both national and global attention.

‎“World leaders showed up, millions tuned in, and even ADC promoters pranced around Daura like eager real estate agents,” Dare added.

‎He also highlighted key achievements under President Tinubu, including economic recovery and infrastructure development.

‎Major milestones listed included stabilised currency, increased oil output, and revitalised state finances through improved FAAC allocations.

‎The rollout of the student loan scheme was also cited as a sign of reform-focused governance.

He added: ‎“These are not press statements. These are results. Tangible, measurable, and ongoing.

“That is leadership. What does the ADC offer Nigerians beyond sanctimonious whining?”

‎He questioned the ADC’s relevance, describing it as a party riddled with internal crises and legal confusion.

‎Dare reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, refusing to dignify what he called “political scavengers.”

‎He urged Nigerians to ignore what he called the noise from a party “gasping for attention.” (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

‎Dare, a former minister of youth and sports development, described the appointment as a significant boost for Nigerian and African football.

‎In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Dare congratulated Pinnick on his return to continental football leadership.

‎”His new appointment as Special Adviser to the CAF President is well-deserved, and I am confident he will make invaluable contributions to African football at this strategic level,” Dare said.

‎Dare emphasised that Pinnick’s presence within the CAF executive will once again, place Nigeria at the center of major football decisions on the continent.

‎”It’s a win for the country and a proud moment for Nigerian sports leadership, especially at a time where President Bola Tinubu has mandated the development of a strong sports economy in Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added.

‎Pinnick previously served as CAF first vice president and as a member of the FIFA Council.

‎During his tenure, he worked closely with Dare as minister, forging a synergy to reposition Nigerian football and sports generally.

‎Dare expressed optimism that Pinnick’s appointment would further elevate Nigeria’s reputation in international football governance.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Abuja court strikes out Bash Ali’s N500bn suit against ex-sports minister

Abuja court strikes out Bash Ali’s N500bn suit against ex-sports minister

By Edith Nwapi

‎Justice Peter Kekemeke of an Abuja High Court on Thursday struck out former boxer, Bash Ali’s suit for being “Statute barred”.

‎Ali had instituted the suit against former Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, the National Sports Commission and the  Attorney General of the Federation.

‎Delivering a ruling on the preliminary objection by the defendant in the suit, Kekemeke held that the case was no longer valid because the time limit for bringing it to court has passed, as defined by a statute of limitations.

‎“From the piece of evidence before the court, there is none pointing that the first defendant signed a contract.

‎“The suit was filed on Oct. 10, 2021, three months before the claimant ‘s counter affidavit , his case did not fall into the expectation known in law, the cause of Act accrued on May 20, 2020 is statute barred.

‎” The notice of preliminary objection succeeds, the case is consequently struck out.

‎Ali had in his suit prayed the court for an order declaring that withdrawal of support given to him was illegal.

‎He prayed for an order of the court directing the first defendant to reteact the defamatory matter published against him.

‎Ali further asked the court for an order of the court directing the first defendant to resume their support.

‎He also asked for N500 billion for loss of income among other demands.

‎The defendants in the case are Sunday Dare, then Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports development and the Attorney General of the Federation.

For over 19 years, Bash Ali has pushed to stage the Guiness World Record Boxing fight.

However, across the administrations of five Presidents and five Sports Ministers, his proposal has consistently failed to receive full official approval or endorsement — a clear indication of lingering doubts about its legitimacy.(NAN)(www.nanews.ng)
