Wine-themed event promoting Yantai wines held in Frankfurt
A wine-themed event titled “Bridging Cultures Through Wine — When Yantai Meets Frankfurt” was held in Frankfurt, Germany, on Oct. 27, bringing together guests from both China and Germany to celebrate cultural exchange through fine wine.
The event opened with a video message from Lyu Bo, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Yantai Municipal Committee and head of its publicity department.
Former Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann expressed his gratitude to the organizers for the invitation. He noted that while Frankfurt is globally renowned for its apple wine, it is also an important wine-producing and trading hub in Germany. Feldmann said the city warmly welcomes Yantai wines and looks forward to expanding cooperation with Yantai in more areas in the future.
Simo Feser, a representative of Germany’s wine industry, shared that although he had read many articles about Chinese wines, this was his first opportunity to taste them in person — an experience he had been eagerly anticipating.
Fang Xinru, head of China Affairs for the city of Bingen and a winery owner herself, guided guests through a tasting of one white and one red wine from Yantai. She also introduced the grape varieties, production techniques, flavors, and other unique characteristics of each wine.
A blind tasting followed, featuring Yantai white wine alongside German Riesling. Participants agreed that while the two wines offered distinct flavors, both left a memorable impression.
The venue also featured a photo exhibition showcasing the scenic beauty of Yantai, helping attendees gain a deeper understanding of the coastal Chinese city.
Through this wine-tasting event, Yantai and Frankfurt have strengthened mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for future cooperation in culture, tourism, economy, and trade.
